I'm not against that entirely, but I am afraid that if they try to improve it and it obviously still can't be movie quality, it'll fall into an uncanny valley trench or otherwise suffer from dissonant elements. A lot of fan animations that are supposedly "better" than the original, for example, have a bunch of secondary action like hair and skirt movement that's not in the anime, but don't have the clipping cleanup to back it up so it's actually less effective.

As long as its done with the same studio and the increase is manageable so that they don't just hire the first 40 animators that apply without really honing their skill. That said This could be a watershed moment for 3d anime so given a normal anime budget and a properly picked staff the next anime could really have a lot of improvements.

I'm pretty sure Tatsuki himself would have loved a bigger budget and bigger staff and has his own self criticisms of his own series. I mean any good artist would.

Yaoyorozu: Although really digging deep is a way to enjoy something, and I am not going to deny that, but it really is baffling when the whole exercise deviates too much from the anime's content. For example, say that I have this plate of tofu that I'd like our guest to enjoy, so we delivered it to him and say that "this is our tofu", but the guest looks at it and go "this tofu's whiteness symbolizes the anxiety of our present era," all we can do about that is to go "is that so?" when most just wanted to have some tofu. Man, they would have to be the most stupid producers in this planet to even think about changing the core team of the animation project.

If anything, we would get a better budgeted show that hopefully will translate in: better animations, no clipping, better lip-sync and better backgrounds (the 3d ones).

I would love to see some minor improvements on the models (hands and fluffy areas), but I can see why people would be against those changes.

What you are talking about is "improving" the animation from a technical standpoint. Improving something from a technical standpoint doesn't necessarily improve the experience or feeling of it. Different stories work better with different visuals. I think Kemono Friends happens to have found close to the idea for the story it is telling. It reinforces the innocent, naive feelings of the Friends well and creates a juxtaposition with the more unsettling subtle visual elements.

there's improvements that could be made that wouldn't mess with the visuals of the show that would help with quality of the show. without drastically affecting the tone. I'm not saying go full sakuga action fest. i'm saying that there's a bunch of scenes where there could have been touch ups, models clipping, sliding animation, awkward pauses.
Though i have to say they sleight of hand in some of these scenes is great, and some other scenes manage to do it really well. But to me i don't think the "poor quality added to the charm" is true at all. The story telling, the direction, the consistency of the quality and sound is what helped draw attention away from that. but there's room for improvement.
Also saying they shouldn't add more budget or more animators is to wish tatsuki's studio stagnation instead of improvement and i wish all the best for an artist who has as much passion as he does. I will trust in Tatsuki if he does get a chance for a second season, and that means trusting him with any budget too.

I'm not sure where you get that from at all? If you mean artistic stagnation then I wholeheartedly disagree. But are you telling me that the animating is perfect as is in the show currently. And that there was no point where the animation caused you to notice it instead of the story due to whatever cause.
I praise this show a lot for while being technically on a low level, having great production values in that its quality remains consistent which does a lot to maintain the audiences attention, As well as its great use of motion and movement and background eye candy at the right moments to keep the eyes and the mind entertained and focused on the center of the scene while leaving the peripheries still.
I think you're missunderstanding me though. I don't want pure motion action scene sakuga or more fluid movements or different models. I'm just saying they'd probably like to have a couple more characters on screen with a bit more character motion in some of those scenes. Or perhaps more time to work on some of the movement/running animation to make it blend in with their backgrounds. Or some animators who can do quality control checks to look for clipping issues that can be spot fixed. and all of that takes time, which either means longer production schedule for less people, or more budget to hire people to do that work.
The small staff while it gives a lot more control to the director also limits the studios ability to multitask.

the great success of this show may affect how he works in the future depending on how any project gets sponsored etc.

and if he's been doing this of for decades you'd think there's somethings he always wanted to try if he had the chance. Its all give and take but there's no keeping the charm of the original because nothing in a second season will compare with the original. how many second seasons that were a completely different project matched their original? How many were better? how many were worse? but how many felt the same? none. and few match. some are better, some are worse.

The people saying they want the spirit of the original will probably be the most disappointed in the second season since they want the magic of the original. But most of those visual quirks were just that quirks. they weren't gags that were specifically placed. but charm points they found. Whether they add or detract is up to the viewer. but such imperfections are impossible to add consciously without ruining what makes them great in the first place, and many of them would get edited out in post if given the time.

His ambition in 2010 was to make a low budget TV show length anime that clearly wasn't able to compete with professional productions on equal footing in terms of animation quality because then people might be able to enjoy it like a TV anime in-spite of that, which was an idea he found interesting. He said he would be happy if 1 in 10,000 people who watched it thought "yeah ghibli and pixar productions sure are amazing but that was enjoyable".
