There's a game (NGE 2) with Anno's writing which has a good end (EoE is a marked bad end) in the main scenario (Shinji's) and has shit to do with Asuka's "mixed signals".
To trigger the good end you need to:
- Stop Kaworu from being a suicidal faggot (which automatically activates the Third Impact countdown as Longinus returns to Earth).
- Persuade Rei that being human is worth it (cockblocks Gendo's manual impact with Lilith and Rei fusion).
- Defeat the serial Evas (cockblocks Seele from getting to Lilith).

In order for Shinji to have a happy ending, he has to man up in actually deal with the Kaworu issue as he wanted it instead of being following Kaworu's well-intended but manipulated by Seele wish to save lilin, encourage Rei when she's down and confused to reinforce her humanity instead of avoiding her because she's 'scary', and stop the invasion so saving Asuka and Misato rather than grovel for their attention or avoid them.
