It's just cost-cutting. Removing most of the frames means that you have to render less, you can be incredibly lazy with your animations, it semi-obscures your mediocre Japanese animator's skills, it's an excuse to imitate a plethora of cost cutting techniques applied to 2d animation, and you don't need to animate things like basic emoting.

It's a very efficient process of bad animation.

Well, we only have Fumikane FAGirls and the odd one out Baselard, no wonder there's no variety. There's Hres too at some point, but doesn't seem like she'll join the main cast. First came the frame arms kits, a series of original design mecha from different designers that all share an inner frame.

Then when Kotabukiya saw there was an market for mechamusume being inadequately filled (And burned by Konami) they created the Frame Arm Girls line, which were primarily mecha musume of their frame arms kits (Innocentia and materia are originals not based on a frame arms). The line was crazy popular with preorders the first several releases selling out in half an hour of going up for sale and before they started reprinting them gourai was going for about 3 times her base price on the aftermarket.

Up until now, Frame Arms and FAGs didn't have much in the way of lore to them Frame Arms had a vague backstory about Alien space robots vs Earth robots from a short manga nobody read. FAGs got the busou shinki treatment for their backstory and the anime is now promoting them.


Funny enough the FAG line has been more popular than the original Frame Arms ever were.

No, koto just did a deal with Godhands to get a kotobukiya exclusive version of the meme hands and they are shilling them to get their money's worth out of it.

God hands are far sharper than what you really need to build snapfit kits with large pieces like FAGs and gunpla. They just got popular with the casual builder snapfit crowd because they think using them will help them git gud when really its a crutch for them to use as a shortcut for spending less time removing nubs. Originally their primary purpose is for kits with very small and fragile parts where the pressure of cutting them off the runner can break them.

They are damn nice nippers, but if you can remove nubs properly than a xuron, tamiya, or gundam planet set works fine for a lot less. Fuck, when I first started I was using a $3 pair of "Flush cutters" from harbor freight.

If you want to start really cheap and easy on beginner tools then bluefin distribution sells a mr.Hobby starter tool set for cheap on amazon.
