When I first read it, it only had good translations up to White Album, so I really liked the first half but was utterly indifferent to everything after, and ended up forgetting what made me love the characters and fights from the first part. The deaths made me feel virtually nothing, the characters lost all their character, and I completely forgot about it after how great parts 6 and 7 were.

Now that the newer translations are nearly done I'd rank part 5 as one of my favorites, but if I had my time again I would've waited until the good translations were complete to start reading.

Colored lips and other crazy colors lose their appeal when they're always there. When Araki was drawing the occasional color picture among his B/W comic I don't think his intent was to imply that the characters are constantly wearing lipstick. I feel the anime understands this by having normally grounded color schemes that get replaced with more vivid palettes during certain moments.

'I go fast so the universe rewinds itself, and you are trapped by fate' isn't very hard to explain, certainly moreso than 'I send you to sleep, swap your souls with random people near you, power them up exponentially, and make them attack you if you bother me, plus if there's an extra soul around I'll make it share a body with its blood-relation'.

I think Polnareff is one of Araki's best-managed characters.
His main motivation was achieved rather early, keeping his plotline moving, with Avdol's "death" motivating him further to fight DIO and avenge him. Even after dropping his guilt after Judgement, he's still fully committed and is allowed to be much more of a bro, as he's not angsting over Holly all the time.
The Banira Iceu fight and his reaction to Iggy and Avdol really dying was the cherry on the fuckin' cake. Pol is the best dude and has a great arc, maybe the best of any part 3 character.
