The main character at this point is a nonentity
The first chapters were an abortion
Nothing in the story has any weight due to the author's newfound ability to coat bad developments in a thick coating of bad jokes which pleases the braindead readerbase enough to not drop it like the hot garbage it has always beed.

If you call it a deconstruction I will go to your house and shit in your toilet reservoir. Fir Punch is going to die out as hard as Helck did, but at least Helck started out coherently.

I assume that is beginning. As Fire Punch is wholly an absurdist work, the beginning set the stage and tempo for the goals that would later be undercut by the characters own inabilities to fulfill them.

Of course he's flat. Someone who's been on fire since they were like fifteen is not going to develop mentally. At all. If you want a super awesome MC who knows exactly what to do in every situation go read some self-insert LN. Agni is being led around the nose by Togata because he is mentally a child, and that's part of the hook of the manga.

You can see this in him throughout the entire thing, his apathy to the people around and his general confused wanderings. But it wasn't exactly told to you that his mental growth is completely fucked until he had tell Togata himself. It was a good example of show don't tell until they had their little argument in recent chapters and he had to say it himself.
