LoGH is my favorite anime of all time.

Speaking of western audiences, I had never realized before watching LoGH how pro democracy pop culture is. Usually the furthest hollywood goes is criticize the character of a politician, as an individual, and put the blame on him for everything that is wrong with democracy. But never does it criticize democracy itself, as a system. I had never watched a work criticizing democracy or finding merits to an autocracy before. Maybe I should just watch more stuff, I dunno, but that's a huge part of why I enjoyed LoGH so much. It was so refreshing, each side points out the failings of the other side and there is no right answer. Even constitutionalism is criticized.
Not that I want to live under a disctatorship or anything, but I always felt like democracy was overated. People in movies never look at its failings or try to improve it because that would basically be admitting it is not a perfect system.

Just read an introduction to political philosophy instead. A small booklet, half the size of a smart phone, goes above and beyond everything in LOGH.
