She shouldnt have even been a character. She is woefully out of place. Both Benio and Rokuro are compelled by intense trauma whereas Mayura essentially volunteers for lack of anything better to do. She is the Dizzy Flores of Anime - a girl who involves herself with in a conflict in which she is almost certain to die simly to follow her unrequited high school romance. Not to mention her design is shit. Every moment which was developed to her could have been given to better more appropriate characters. Seeing her surpass dedicated characters like Benio, if only temporarily, is beyond frustrating. Mayura doesnt have the backstory or the disposition for her growth to be believable. I genuinly hate her. The narrative didnt need a pointless third-wheel and Shimon didnt need a distant love interest.

It's like a budget bleach. A few dropped plot points, nonsense power levels and many useless forced characters with a lot of filler. It's about what you'd expect from a typical shounen - enjoyable but not particularly extraordinary in any way. It was enjoyable to watch but the manga is probably much better if you're interested in the plot.

Only Shounen in the last couple of years I've watch entirely weekly, though I will say the Benio getting abducted to be Seimei wife filler cliche had me closer to dropping it that anything else but the last 2 episodes were decent enough for me to forget it.

Also best girl was Miku.

When I watch a show every week for a whole year I tend to get attached to it. Even the characters that I found insufferable at first (about half the cast) didn't seem so bad by the end. Best girls were the loli old hag and the one that yells a lot.

I did and to be honest, I wasn't dissapointed. It's a cute little well thought out and occasionally clever show.
Kind of pissed that the rando master/mistress exorcists didn't do more and that it didn't become a slightly better planned teen bleach and have the younger cast take over the exorcist roles. Do the whole passing the torch to the next generation thing and play up the romance aspect a bit.
But I was pleasently surprised with what I got and it was pretty damned good.

Every rule established got thrown out as they wrote this.

Manga reader here. What's this about Seimei? I don't remember that part. I might've missed it or my memory is just really shit (probably the latter).

As a daoist myself, I like the end message, but I also think Seimei is right. If humanity wants to advance there must be a purge of yin. But it isn't like we have to advance or anything. We could struggle on endlessly in total futility until extinction. Totally drowning ourselves in yin.

It doesn't matter what we do because the heavens have prepared for every scenario. There will be at least one sentient race out there that does create a society based on Seimei's ideals. They will be the ones to fulfill the purpose of the universe. Their lives would look twisted to us humans just like Benio and Rokuro were talking about. Because of that, our role in the universe is likely not Seimei's ideal but more along the lines of keeping yin and yang in balance like the show talked about.
And perhaps that way we can last much longer than we really should. So even if things do come to a horrible end here, if we fight hard to move forward to a more positive existence, we may create something beautiful in the process. And that would give our lives some small meaning at least.

Well shit, that was actually pretty damn good. Lost it when Sae and baseball-kun showed up. Yeah it was a drag to keep up with, and I was pissed to discover it was 50 episodes since I only picked it up because benio a cute, but I cant help but feel nostalgic and sad now that its over. Guess you'll grow attached to any show regardless of quality if you follow it long enough. Hated each new OP/ED as they came along but ended up loving them over time. ED3 was instant 10/10 though,
