Look up American or Commonwealth WWII propaganda. Japanese were commonly caricatured as monkeys or rats.

Obviously both countries have progressed a lo since then, but there are still incidents like when an Okinawan girl was gang-raped in 1994. Anti-American sentiment is common on both the far-left (the Communist Party does well in Okinawa) and the far-right (for obvious reasons) while the political mainstream is pro-Western because of trade + China.
