Killua is just a complete cuck. He was cool in the beginning but he's just gotten more and more homo from the beginning.

He went to fight pic related (an intentional suicide mission) even though he didn't give a shit about Kite just because Gon wanted to. He has zero aspirations or goals aside from having Gon pound his butt. He just does whatever Gon wants and doesn't seem to have any strong opinions about anything. He was originally introduced as this edgy, remorseless assassin, but most his panel time in the manga is him frolicking with his boyfriend like the gay little fruit he is. How do you get invested in a character who isn't trying to achieve anything or become anything?

He's also not even interesting to watch fight because for like half the manga his philosophy is "pick on weaklings and run away from anyone strong enough to put up a fight." It takes like 15 volumes before he has a real battle that he fights to the finish and isn't over in 2 seconds. And then after that the manga shifts focus so he gets way less time in the story and the next major arc has him hopelessly outclassed again and unable to do much real fighting.

TL;DR he's dull as a character and boring to as a fighter in an action manga.

There was build up that Killua would eventually leave Gon, but Killua's cowardice gets resolved in about one chapter by pulling a needle out of his head. The flaw was never his flaw, as it was Illumi controlling him with his nen. Not to mention the effect of the needle ended up being pointless anyway. When Pitou confronted Kite, the needle should have made Killua instinctively run away right there without any thought, but he knocked out Gon and grabbed him first.

Also his relationship with Alluka. He left his family on his own for his own reasons, and apparently never had any sense of normalcy before Gon and now suddenly he has a healthy loving relationship with his brother. Then he blamed the needle for forgetting about him.

His selfishness is never addressed seriously either.

The only reason to like this character is for fapping and self-insert purposes and that's all his fans care about as you can see.

I feel as though Killua taking out the literal mind controlling needle to overcome the clutches of the abusive relationship for his brother is still there.
This page is exactly as what you described beforehand, except instead of being purely emotional abuse, it's handled through nen abilities fucking Kilua in the head. Only because it was nen and not mental abuse only doesn't take away from the moment and in fact makes the moment more impactful. It shows how far Illumi would go to keep his brother in check, and his whole family knew too

This is Tosaghi's pointing that Killua is a parallel to other character if anything. Ikalgo didn't even know 'old Killua' for this to even considered an accurate analogy.

He was truly starting to become dependant after HA arc when they're on the island and Killua says he was going to stay with him until he figures out what to do. Before that, he was just a kid who didn't give much fuck about anything and who abandoned Gon in the Exam Arc
We don't care that Ikalgo didn't know of his past, we do. From Ikalgo's fresh eyes, he sees a young determined charismatic and admirable guy whom he'd follow anywhere, which is exactly how Killua sees Gon since Yorkshin. The point is Gon transmitted qualities to Killua, which is the point of the contrast with Gon becoming darker
