I think it was a cool idea making the guy who Kakashi got his Sharingan from a major antagonist and I think it did pay off in some ways, it makes Obito feel like he is established in the world long before he is even properly introduced.

Kishi fucked it up though. My main problem is how Obito's motives were so retarded, and it was made even worse with how little commitment he had to the whole plan by changing sides. He is a main antagonist, and a little talk with Naruto is enough to change him mind, such bullshit.
