I think it may be an uncommon opinion, but I enjoyed F/SN wayyy more as a VN. Tried the first couple eps of the anime and dropped it. Fate/Zero was fantastic, though.

I'm assuming you're talking about ubw and not the 06 deen adaptation.
The ubw anime was a pretty good adaptation of the route and arguably better than the source, but without foreknowledge of the first route, many of the themes in there are lost.
