Not saying it was axed, as you said it's more likely that he just ran out of ideas and ended it ASAP, but fuck these people should at least have an idea of how their stories should end. The plot of finding Beel's mom felt like a more fitting ending arc, which could have including a visit to the Demon King himself. Instead he dropped it in the middle of a half developed arc after putting it on a small hiatus to go on another mini-arc.

At the very least, he could have finished the fight with Satan BEFORE doing the Beel mom search thing.

Furuichi with pillar squad would have stayed perfectly relevant (particularly wth Jabberwok) while still maintining gag potential (Elim)

Kunieda was fine staying relevant with her spirit and the trainig of her dad and thhe woman with the dolls.

The problem comes with Toujou who even to the fucking last arcs still has no fucking idea what this demon thing is really about, despite having the perfect excuse to properly getting involved (Saotome) and by the end having him submit to Oga with a Crest felt like a gut punch.

The rest of the Ishiyama people is much like Toujou, only weaker. Everyone should have been given a clear picture of what the fuck was going on by the end of the En arc, so that they could have time to catch up with their own flavour of supernatural skills.
