When the manga was in it's earlier chapters, people were drawing parallels to Shin Sekai Yori. They thought that Norman would sacrifice himself and that Ray and Emma would end up together after a timeskip. I think that's where a lot of the "NTR" stuff is coming from.

To me - and I might be completely off but this is just the way I interpreted this whole deal - the presence of the other two was hurting Emma's character development. She has as much panel time as them but she's the one usually asking the questions and being "naive" while the other two worked to solve things. She never tried harder because she never had to. Norman especially always tries to do what she wants and cater to her needs because he's in love with her so she doesn't really have to try hard. Hence the "Norman, without you I can't do a thing". Emotional support probably comes into play here too.

With them gone, that support is gone too and since the other kids are certainly not as smart as her, she's gonna have to be the one to take the lead. Which is when I think she's finally going to be developed because she has to think by herself, she won't have any help. This is why I feel like those two are being put aside, for the MC's development sake. Personally, I'd like to at least follow Norman's deal in the demon HQ or whatever but since this is probably gonna be seen through her eyes we're only going to get her side of the story.
