That was one of the decent draws the series had for me, combined with allowing pretty much anyone in the cast to die meant the battles had real stakes. It's something a lot of series lack, there's no tension because you know the main characters will either win, or not die anyways.

Fix Esdeath's characterization. Her love for torture is stupid and unmotivated, while her lack of empathy is well done and well explained. Work more on that

Fix Seryu's characterization. The way she's now, it feels like it was designed by That DM who just loves to see Paladins falling. I think she was meant to be that character who tries to follow justice but only sees one side of the coin, and thus ends up having a flawed understanding of the situation. However that role was later taken over by Wave, so that's why her character become less of a character and more of a joke. Perhaps have her reflect on the meaning of justice a bit more, then?

Also absolutely fucking fix Wild Hunt, holy shit.

He worked very closely with the anime and probably chickened out because his chickenshit fans threw a bitch fit about it, despite that he would've had more time to pull it off in the manga.

Then again, he was also the one who wanted Leone to live on for hours after she was shot by Honest (the anime crew wanted her to die right there), so he wasn't all that good.

If Shakespeare could write that setting well enough, maybe it could work. But AgK never built up to a romantic tragedy, and instead as a shounen battle in which the heroes defeat the villain. Mine and Tatsumi plus Kurome and Wave are side elements that didn't affect the overall trajectory as seen by the anime which has the same end but with no extra that made the story more interesting.

I though the reason Mine didn't die because she is the autor's favourite character.

You're confusing theme with lore though. Nothing on the lore prevents happy endings, but the theme was tragedy and dying pointlessly. Takahiro ended up mixing two themes at the end maybe thanks to yuuki yuuna though, he came to conclusion that kids that didn't choose this life should be spared because they are innocent. Which is why those got the best endings while adults still died pointlessly like Leone.

Nah man, that's like saying you don't know how you car works if it runs out of gas.

It kinda made sense for his character, he's this absurd powerhouse that no-one could really stand up to, so he's usually probably twat-ed most opponents within a few minutes. In the collesium punch-up, he suddenly finds himself facing someone on his level and a bunch of other, tricky opponents, and he over-exerted himself.
Going back to the car analogy, it's kinda like having a car you only used for short journies, then one day you've got to make a long trip with it and you misjudge when you'll run out of fuel.

Having said all that, it was a totally underwhelming way for him to die, and the whole fight was badly misjudged, and I don't think Budo came across the way takahiro intended him to
