She doesn't even say kuro. She says kurou, and yes the long vowel matters. Kuro means black, kurou means hard work and hardship. There's a bit of wordplay involved because yes, it does sound like "black", but the full meaning of the name hasn't even been explained in the manga.

This is why we decided to leave "Kurou" untranslated just to be safe.
