Traffic accidents or illness is the easiest way to kill off a character in a normal drama setting. That's why you see so much of Truck-kun and the deadly Japanese cold/CLANNAIDS. It's a bit devoid of imagination but try to think of a way to kill a character in such a normal setting without it seeming out of left field, and you'll find that there aren't that many options.
