There still hasn't been a "The Fifth" or "The Sixth" chapter. Usopp and Franky joined officially at the same time, and for some reason Oda didn't use the opportunity to have Robin join officially too despite one of the main goals of the arc.

Somethin's up with Chopper and Robin. I've been curious as to what Robin's true role in the story is since that point.

The only reason I don't think jinbei will die is because it would be meaningless if he died here. Him dying isn't a worst case scenario. They didn't come for jinbei, and they can easily escape without him. Sanji dying would actually make more sense

You should start from chapter 1 in the manga. The story is connected from the very beginning, characters from the first arcs remain important in later arcs, unlike in most battle shounen.

Skipping most arcs would mean missing all the development you need for current arcs. Without reading all, you'll miss a LOT of nuance and details which are what makes the series so great, especially with how many meaningful callbacks there are.
