Isekai is a blessing to writers, it's template makes it easy for you to just site down and write.
plot, world building, character development - all basic in a isekai setting.

Yeah, it's pretty boring. If the main character can't die, then there's no sense of urgency, even in situations that should be life-or-death. The other popular trope of the isekai genre, the "useless MC that is shocked and bewildered by everything" is just as boring, because they only have one go-to reaction to literally any situation. You can get around that saying "oh it's tongue-in-cheek, it's supposed to be a deconstruction of the fantasy genre, etc, etc" and that would be okay the first time, or the second time. The fact that it's so popular now really drives home >>154577790's point in that it's writing on easy mode; You don't have to worry about "what would the character do in X situation" because the answer is either "be shocked at something that is completely mundane in the fantasy world" or "die."

To be honest with you Al has a better respawn that Subaru as Al can control checkpoint which Subaru cannot. Then there is the fact that everytime Subaru respawns a timer gets counted down to the qorld being destroyed. As well as Subaru not being the actual Subaru but his concousness being transferred into another timeline to which where the other timelines continue which Subaru has to live with and is forced to watch by Echidna. Then there is the destruction of all the genuine moments and relatonships that he has cultivated when he respawns. Imagine if he respawned when during episode 18, that's bound to fuck someone up.

That's one of the most annoying things about Barusu, he almost never uses his head until a mountain of deaths and terrible outcomes happen first. He makes some of the stupidest decisions. Then the author has him connect the most random-ass clues, hints, and assumptions together to successfully navigate whatever problem he's in.

I look at that and go "there's no way a normal person would be able to figure out most of this stuff without having to do a couple of dozen tries ending in death." It's kind of bullshit. There's a number of things I like about the show, but Barusu is not one of them.

Eh, I actually like the premise well enough. It is nice that Barusu isn't super genre-savvy, people aren't just automatically assuming he's this amazing hero or whatever. The mystery of how he ended up there, and what the Witch is up to with him, etc, has me hooked enough to keep watching. Plus, the show is not some kind of fluffy, cutesy fantasy world much of the time; people die, often in gruesome, horrifying ways. Theres dark, evil shit that happens in the world that the MC can't just walk in and solve by virtue of being "The Hero," etc.

That said, I do recognize that overall it's not the best execution, and that these isekai LN/WN authors are generally pretty crappy writers, so I'm not expecting high-quality storytelling or literary prowess out of it.

Its a bit unrealistic in that nobody investigates how this new shop opened up out of nowhere or checks that they have the appropriate licence,etc. Or that they are able to able to afford so many luxury stuff and keep their prices so low.

I mean sure, a few customers do wonder it but nobody actually investigates them. It would be like if a new bar opened up that looked like some 5 star hotel and they were selling stuff like bottles of dom perignon for $50 or something.

Even the tax collector guy didnt collect any taxes fro them in the end, so he must have paid for the shop's taxes out of his own pocket when he reported it to the city council. That kind of stretchs things.

Also some of the scenes are just too over the top "oh my god this chicken is so amazing ive never tasted this before". Most modern food actually tastes worse than medieval food when you take into account all the growth hormones and shortcuts used in the commercial process. Your cheapest supermarket branded chicken is injected with liquid preservatives to increase shelf life and also make it heavier to increase the price.

Only when you start looking at free range chicken from reputable brands do you get chicken that might be better than "natural" medieval era chicken, but if the shop is using expensive chicken like that, their prices would reflect that. On a per weight basis, free range/organic stuff is usually at least 2x as expensive as the cheapest commercial alternatives. And Japan has one of the world's highest costs of living, so their food isnt cheap.

The story also doesnt explain a huge plothole : their store connects to BOTH worlds, and the staff can go to modern japan anytime they want. So why havent any modern japanese customers entered the shop?

The problem is more that it is often just a shitty plot device, when it could be a huge part of the plot.

Look at drifters, the entire story is about gods or whoever bringing people to another world to fight a proxy war for them.

Then look at the shitty typical isekai where its just the MC travelling around and women throwing themselves at him while he shits his pants at all the hot girls touching him. The fact that the MC is from another plot is usually so unimportant that it could have been removed and nothing of value would be lost.

Going to slightly cheat on this one, as I’ve had a plot synopsis going around my head ever since being annoyed at how time resets were done in re:zero.

I know many people have said it before, but it has to be reiterated. The problem with the isekai "genre" is the heavy reliance on RPG statistics/world building and terrible wish fulfillment/power fantasy.

RPG worlds are great, look at a Final Fantasy game or (insert RPG world) and you have an interesting and fascinating world. What is annoying is telling a story then seeing everything quantified by a number (oh, this person has 100 hp, and their attack stat is 145) as opposed to "Hey, this character is strong and he can knock out a monster without trying."

I actually love isekai in theory, but so far no story has really done it justice in my opinion. As in, I really like the concept of a guy being transported to another world or being reincarnated with his memories. However most stories just dive right into the wish fulfillment.

Not saying that wish fulfillment is bad, but very rarely does it feel like the stuff happening to the characters isn't contrived. Like shield hero, one of my favorite isekai stories, is still not that great IMHO because while he is totally shit on by everyone at first, he still gets a harem of bitches and he gets to act like a self-righteous prick for the rest of the story because people treated him like crap for a while. The best isekai stories are ones where they actually try to tell a compelling story or at least a tale of love, rather than one guy having a super cheat ability and fucking as many bitches as possible.

I don't like to count the half accurate generalizations personally. It's very easy to make things in this genre sound similar if you over simplify the what and not the why. For Overlord I feel like that's doing it a disservice, similarly I feel it would be for something like the earliest volumes of Konosuba or Log Horizon.
As an example I'll use the love interest ones because they're some of the most inaccurate for Overlord. Ainz does not develop a Harem and those who do have an interest in him are either not actually interested in him (Evil Eye likes Momon and thinks he's basically an anime fantasy protag, she doesn't actually like Ainz and just fell for his roleplaying) or worshiped him as a god from the very start due to him being a supreme being. It's not like he's unreasonably keeping a harem because he's a charming self-insert, he doesn't even want it to begin with and has trouble viewing any of these characters in a way that's not like a relative. This is important for their character interactions and can make the aforementioned statements sound accurate out of context, but it's by no means the focus of the story and I feel that saying they're this big part of the story gives the wrong impression. Don't get me wrong, some of these are more accurate than others and again I'm not trying to "defend" anything, but I personally don't agree with that kind of approach to summing up a story's events.

Betelgeuse? He actually serves as more of a warning, once his backstory gets revealed. He used to be a good man, but he was driven mad by the Authority of Sloth. Such powers seem to slowly drive all of their wielders mad, as they take an increasingly stronger hold on their host's personality.

Well, it's am ongoing series. The anime actually left out a lot of yet to be answered questions, and more are introduced all the time. Basically, there's some greater mystery behind the entire plot of Re:Zero, which only slowly gets revealed bit by bit.

Anyhow, if this is where people are discussing Re:Zero, I've found more evidence that Rem is 18. Annerose told Emilia that kissing makes babies when she was 9, right? That would have been about 6 months back, around when Emilia first moved in, right? Because Annerose hasn't been born yet in the Oni twin backstory, and they've been working at Roswaal's for a few months now and were already 8 when they arrived.

Doing the math, Rem has to be 18 and older than Subaru by the time Arc 3 comes about.

I actually plan one day write this kind of story, so I'm pretty interested, if I say here initial story treatment here, what your reaction will be. First I must say, that I took no any particular inspiration in anything beyond traditional influences of ordinary viewer. So here is it:
