Seems to me like there's quite a lot of that. From what I've heard, working conditions for jap animators is pretty fucking abysmal. Long stressful work hours with office sleepovers and pay that isn't always enough to live a decent life on. Despite all that Japan still shits out new shows like there is no tomorrow. Sounds like those people would have to be pretty passionate in order to want to work like that.

I think this sums things up perfectly. The primary demographics for anime don't give a shit about animation quality, only waifus. The industry just adapted to cater to their needs.
