Holy shit the possibilities are endless, we've found it, the way to make idols full shonenshit with tournaments and all kinds of opponents.

I don't get why people diss the stars songs, they are the same quality and memorability as the original show. hell, take off the nostalgia goggles and you'll realize that first season of OG had a greater number of generic, poorly composed and boring songs than any other season afterwards, like move on now, take me higher, growing for a dream and signalize for a few. yes, I realize a lot of people like signalize, but I've never been able to understand why and suspect it's mainly nostalgia. diamond happy and calendar girl are much more exciting and actually capture the spirit of the series.

As much as I like these sort of episodes, they do end up being a bit stopgappy. It's just consolidating where all the characters are at, and getting ready for the next storylines to happen. Not that it's a bad thing to have them every once in a while. It's nice to sort of see where everyone is at post whatever development they got. Although I really don't need anyone else to tell me that Yume is much stronger than she was a year ago.

Still plenty of cute moments, and Moroboshi being a fucking dork again.

I started OG a few weeks before Stars started and Stars is clearly below not only compared to OG, they don't even try to make their composition or instrumentation unique, the effects are all a mess (Yozora's voice on Mirai Transit), unlike OG who has all kinds of flavours from the beginning that know exactly what they're aiming for with diverse and distinctive music that matches their characters, and a clean sound too. This is true for almost every song save episode Solo, I would say some other Stars songs are also good but that's my own taste.

It's true, though. people subconciously let nostalgia cloud their judgements of quality all the time. it's a proven effect and it's not a personal dig at you. I thought this because I often see people criticizing stars for problems the original show had too, and I don't think it's entirely intentional, I think in some cases people really do selectively remember only the good parts of shows. for example, people criticize the way ako and mahiru are reduced to "meme characters", but they seem to forget that the original show also did this with tons of characters and would even introduce characters and do literally nothing with them afterwards.

that's true of season 2 onwards, but not of season 1. there are some more playful standouts in season 1, like glass doll, but overall all the music sounds basically the same - generic j-pop. I don't dislike it, it's just not "diverse and distinctive music that matches their characters".
