Tell me if im wrong, but i got the vibe that Naota like Haruko but at the end she still just leaves him for her boyfriend and he was always just a little kid in her eyes. Any type of actual feelings was just in his head because of his immaturity and her teasing, no? It fits within the themes of the series. Basically yeah. She represents the world of (young) adults, something that Naota is barely just getting any glimpse of. Haruko has her own shit going on and honestly only uses Naota for the most part.

I think she cared about him but she still loves her life and her BF more. So she just leaves, its an ending that kind of shows Naota life isnt all sweetness and that his dumb cynicism isnt the answer for it. At the end he is forming a friendship with Ninamori, but is a deeper frinedhsip rather than one based on his delusions with Haruko.

This is a great show, a quintessential coming of age story, i hope the planned sequel lives up to the original.

It's structurally very odd as well and somehow it works in its favour. Episode 4 is very moody and cool and then suddenly there's episode 5 which is wacky cartoon nonsense. Then ep 6 hits you out of left field by being romantic as fuck
