I hate to say it but this arc's been getting worse these last few episodes.
The arc started slow, then we had some amazing moments like "Katsura janai, ZURA DAAAAA", the Sakamoto stuff, Pakuyaso or whatever his name was, motherfucking Takasugi and the reunion of the four samurai. But these last three episodes didn't really impress me. The flashbacks and backstory weren't that impressive or tear-jerking to me as they were obviously trying to be, and the Umibouzo/Kamui/Gintoki/Kagura fight was a let down.

I guess I sort of look forward to knowing more about Oboro next week but this past month or so has been a dra to be honest.

Is episode 95 after the Benizamura arc? Because it continues with arcs like that throughout the series; some more serious than others while others are just outright comedy. The difference is that from the Shogun Assassination arc to this one, we've just had completely serious although there are a few comic relief moments inserted.

I think one of Gintama's strengths is that because we've seen all the characters in the comedy arcs, we're attached to that side as well so it makes the more emotional scenes so much more impactful. I like that they're finally starting to kill some characters and move the plot.

Honestly Gintama has been my favorite show since I watched it start airing but after a while I just get so tired of having characters "die" a dramatic death, only to come back completely fine and become pointless again.

Watching big battles between characters is a little boring because you know that neither of them will die or any repercussions will occur. They always get saved or despite suffering from like 100 stab wounds and cuts and profuse bleeding, they still recover.

Also it's starting to wear on me the fact that the main characters can cut through steel with their swords like it's nobody's business. Also I understand why he doesn't but I would like Gintoki to adopt his old sword or something rather than swinging the bokuto around. Fighting for survival and all that jazz is a little weird with a wooden sword. Not to mention he pretty much kills them anyway, so why not just use a normal sword?

I apparently have a lot of complaints, even though I still like the show. This arc is refreshing in the sense that it seems to be actually moving the plot forward.

I agree to a certain extent about the bokuto. In a real fight, Gin wouldn't stand a chance against steel swords with a wooden one but in the context of the series I think the bokuto is supposed to represent his abandonment of the samurai lifestyle after he lost everything in the war. So I can see why Sorachi is sticking to those guns. But on the other hand, I'm pretty sure there were one or two instances where Gin picked up a real sword in the midst of battle and used that instead of the bokuto so I just don't know.

And I too am a little frustrated with the wounds-not-meaning-anything meme which by no means is unique to this series. But I do have a slight problem when Gin is consistently sliced on the same shoulder in almost every single fight and there isn't even a scar to show for it, whereas Kondo got a scar from a single wound. I also understand why Sorachi does this though, its because of Gin's clothes. A cut isn't going to show up super well on the black clad shoulder in the manga whereas its super easy to do on the shoulder with the white kimono. But still. It irritates me just slightly.

Only recently started watching the show myself, and caught up just when this new season started. The first two episodes are literal filler with the cast members going nuts about the fact that they're animated (kinda goes with the show's style), and the first season can be a bit meh for the most part. However, it is all very important introduction and foreshadowing, and I'd be damned if the episode 25, the first ""recap"" episode, doesn't win you over. By the 2nd season and the legendary Benizakura arc, the show really starts to kick in some legit story elements and more serious arcs, but don't go in expecting a non-stop Shonen fighter show.

In the original chapter that was in Jump, Kintoki vowed revenge.

In the final volume version, it was changed to imply that Kintoki had a change of heart.

What? Are you implying that Gin never had an actual training? You're forgetting the fact that he's in the battlefield for years and his skills is arguably as good as Jirocho's (and maybe Jirocho being a few levels better). Also, 2 Yatos already tried to take him down (Abuto's strength alone is better than Tsukuyo and the Hyakka combined) and he was already beaten up by Umibouzo beforehand. Kamui is obviously much more skilled than Kagura but that doesn't mean Kagura can't put up a good fight or can't defend herself. You're also forgetting the fact that she usually holds back from using her destructive strength because she doesn't want to lose to her Yato blood. And like I said before, none of the siblings wanted to kill each other. You're obviously missing the point of this episode, everyone of them are working together to knock some sense into Kamui's brain. And the progress actually shows throughout the fight since Kamui is seen holding back several times.
