Nakab answered in a question corner, NS just don't bother with them. Demons eat meat. They only eat souls if they want to replenish magic. I guess Mel was satisfied with his natural speed of MP recharge and didn't need souls. Since the Commandments had 0 MP when released, they absolutely had to.
