No one "needs" half an hour for a beer, I can drink a liter in 20 minutes if I want, he's talking about being able to enjoy it by consuming it slowly, instead of all at once like shots.

Of course you could also just slowly sip wine or brandy/whiskey if that's what you prefer, beer isn't the only option.
