This series isn't like Amagami because, while having interwoven arcs sounds like a great idea on paper, it requires writing finesse and subtlety. Instead of the joys of watching a relationship grow and develop, we get to watch a girl socially ruin herself, leaving the anticipation that every girl will have unpleasant fates spelled out to us, the audience as well.
It also helps to not have a studio system more or less invested in watching this series fail. Why else would such a hotly anticipated series not have any real money thrown behind it? Because the execs balk at the idea of an omnibus format. So it's easy to dump on this series so you can call the omnibus format a failure and then sweep it under the rug. For this alone, Takayama failed to read the atmosphere and should have pursued something safer.
Some would say that this series is more realistic and we're babies for wanting something more positive and idealistic. Fuck these people. Why? First off, these people get the term being realistic mixed up with being grounded, two very different terms. Secondly, Amagami did something to this board I have never since before or since: inspire people. Amagami made people actually want to pursue real relationships. It showed just how good a relationship could be. Seiren does almost the opposite, both in design and result.

Hikari Tsuneki - The Everything Girl

Episode 9 & 10 has solidified my theory of the purpose of Seiren, and there intentions with Tsuneki.

The creators of Seiren are trying to create the perfect girl/waifu.

"All publicity, even bad publicity, is good publicity," And this is what Seiren is doing with Tsuneki. They aren't idiots, they know how fanboys work. Whether or not you love or hate Tsuneki she is still in your mind, subconsciously. And your can't help but wonder why you're drawn to her.

Tsuneki is the driving force of this anime. Shoichi might be the protagonist, but Tsuneki is the main character.

A very beautiful girl, very popular and modern princess type of girl. However that's not all they've done. They made her character design playful flirtatious (just to tease like any 3d girl), they made her kind, hardworking, and intelligent,

At first I thought they too pieces of each girl to make Tsunkei, however its the other way around. The creators took pieces of Tsunkei to create the other girls, which is why they have a lackluster impact.

Whether its gaming, or reading manga, or playing sports, Tsuneki can do it all.

Sidenote: A very interesting thing that might be overlooked is Tsuneki's relationship with Shoichi. Regardless of the time-line they show that Tsuneki and Shoichi have a very unique relationship. They are very comfortable with each other.

BECAUSE TSUNEKI IS EVERYTHING GIRL, SHE CAN'T BE WON EASILY. As in her best/good ending requires heavy effort (she's hiding something).

She never reveals herself to anyone, but everyone in a way relies on her for their route. This is done intentionally, the staff is saving her for something big. They want some to hate her, and some to love her.

The other girls have no relation or interference with Tsuneki route, but she holds a place in all their routes.

The anime has a hard time depicting this, but i'm sure the game will show it.

Yes, I know the designs got reused. What I am pointing out is that the Seiren versions specifically mentioned doing something that the Amagami versions did in Rihoko's SS+ episodes. Exactly! It became more obvious during episode 8 when Kyoko stated how much Shoichi has changed. These changes did not occur through Shoichi himself, as we the audience know very well that Tsuneki is the driving factor behind these changes.

There was absolutely no way Shoichi could have gotten a good ending for Tsuneki the way he was in the first arc.

Think about it. Tsuneki is the most difficult girl in the game. Shoichi (the inexperienced player) made numerous mistakes during her arc, while Shoichi (the experienced player) has been doing a very decent job with Kyoko's arc.

Toru and Kyoko could not have been first because they don't have enough impact to survive a sucky person playing the game. Tsuneki "the everything girl" is different though. She shines brightly with or without anyone. This itself is her biggest obstacle.

Haven't you noticed with each arc as Shoichi becomes a more confident and more respectful, his unique relationship with Tsuneki increases. Their natural chemistry grows stronger.

It's actually quite beautiful, however the anime has a harder time capturing these themes. Something the game might do a better job at.
