He's also responsible for a hell of a lot of the tactical decisions that kept Gohan and Krillin alive during the frieza saga. Note that as soon as Vegeta's killed, Krillin gets axed.
Then he offs android 19, is the reason Trunks reached a higher form of Super Saiyan, and plays a key part in helping Gohan beat Cell.
Then, he also buys a LOT of time in the buu saga, which is a pretty big deal in that arc. Not to mention without Vegeta we'd have no Vegetto.
Also, he took out Frost, Magetta, and Cabba, and observing his fight with Hit was the only reason Goku could figure out how to fight him.
Just because he's not Goku or Gohan doesn't mean he hasn't done shit.

hell, without Vegeta, Goku and Gohan wouldn't have even KNOWN about the zenkai boost.
Not to mention, without Vegeta, Freiza would have gotten the dragon balls.
And, Hell, if Vegeta hadn't have come to earth (which if you remember, was to become immortal so he could fight and get stronger, i.e. stop Frieza) then Frieza would never have been stopped.
Not to mention, Vegeta also killed Zarbon and Dodoria, and, hell, Vegeta pretty much killed off Frieza's entire command staff, and his son killed off Frieza and Cold.
