SAO movie release today (3/9) in the US, have you gotten your ticket yet? I hope the movie does well.

Going to the 8:00 p.m. showing tomorrow. Only really decided to go since it was playing in my town and I wouldn't have to drive out to the city.

I almost never go to movies anymore, and it gives me an excuse to get out of the house and enjoy myself for once.

I just hope the theater won't be filled with primarily small children or teens who can't keep their mouths shut.
>>
>>154363300
is it subbed or dubbed ?
>>
>>154366783
Anime in theaters is always dubbed. Only certain niche foreign films are ever shown subbed, and those are usually indicated in the cinema's description.
>>
>>154366859
SAO is subbed. There isn't even a dub cast yet for the movie.

The first cour should have been 20 episodes, and had 6 more episodes about them clearing the floors, then ended with the same shit as episode 14, but under different circumstances, and there should have been no second cour. Would have been an 8/10 if they did that.

Pirate and laugh at SAO all you want, but the only people who win by you buying a ticket for the movie is the people who make this trash and the genuine fans.

Go and spend your time/money on something that you enjoy or get something out of instead of paying and watching this movie "ironically". You are just like the people who try to justify why they watch broadcasted garbage reality tv.
>>
>>154371952
What if I actually like SAO and wanna watch it?
>>
Watched it a few hours ago in Sydney. It was quite enjoyable. The fight scenes were loud as fuck though and I guess learning Kendo via a tablet makes you OP IRL.
>>
>>154371974
The post is aimed at the people who don't like it, but still pay for the movie. Sword Art Online is bad, but it's non offensive bad. I can understand people 16 or under liking it, but if you really like it then watch it. It's just that there are a lot of far better stuff out there.
>>
>>154372009
>I guess learning Kendo via a tablet
Didn't Kirito's grandpa force him to learn Kendo when he was younger? His sister is also apparently able to join national tournaments or something, IIRC.

This shit got a movie? God damn it, why did the most boring, bland as shit anime franchise have to become one of the most popular of all time. SAO does not deserve a movie, it barely deserves an hour long OVA. The characters have no personality outside of "I want to suck Kirito's dick", there's never been an interesting story or character arc, and the concept of having to actually live in a video game has been wasted by terrible writing and bullshit escapist fantasies. SAO's only saving graces have been its animation and production value, but it still barely scrapes by as a 5/10 average piece of crap. I seriously can't fathom how this show got so popular outside of inbreds who think "derr, kirito an cool in vidja, and I play vidja, so I an cool."

Anime was a mistake.

>>154372782
If I do put up a serious argument, 9 times out of 10 my response has always been ">defending sao, lol"
I've long since given up on repeating myself every time a detractor starts spouting nonesense.
I accept that hating SAO is currently the "cool thing to do" within the English speaking anime community.

But it doesn't matter; whether you want to call SAO "boring" or "bland", "shit" and "terrible", it doesn't change the fact that SAO is currently more popular than your favorite animu, and will continue to get anime for so long as Kadokawa can milk it. This film's success and popularity only further cements this fact, and flies in the face of detractors who wish to pretend "SAO is dead and irrelevant", just because some guy on YouTube can rave for 2 hours.

So I repeat: Stay Mad.
>>
>>154372782
Your "opinion" is strictly subjective thus it does not require any arguments to disprove.
Stay mad

Both of you need to seriously calm the fuck down. You're not going to accomplishing anything by bickering and bitching about a soviet flip-book. Either go see it or don't. It's your life and your price of admission.
>>
>>154372969
I more so hate SAO's popularity than the actual anime itself. Like I said, I think it's a 5/10, ok but nothing special. It suffers from poor writing, but the visuals and production help make up for this. That's why I don't think it deserves a movie or even the following it's gathered. I never made the claim that SAO is "dead and irrelevant" as you seem to think I did. That said, you are right that it will most likely stay popular until the next huge fad comes along to eat up the less die hard fans of the show.

Also, I'm not hating on SAO because it's "cool." I've watched enough of it to know that it's not for me, and that I think it's pretty boring. Your post still hasn't addressed any of the points I brought up, or why you personally enjoy the show (if you do at all.)
>>
>>154372992
Of course my opinion is subjective, it's a fucking opinion, not a fact. You can still argue with someone over opinions, you just won't come to a definite conclusion.
>>
>>154373224
So you can't actually elucidate anything wrong with it, you just don't like an anime being popular?

Ok then. Sasuga /a/.

Anon, they're currently working on the dub at this moment. The movie is subbed.
>>
>>154373224
It gets a movie because it sells. Stop being a hipster fag who hates something just because it's popular.
>>
>>154374487
I literally said I don't like SAO because I think it's poorly written and boring. I was clearing up the fact that my post was more an attack on the popularity of the show than the show itself. Please try and construct an actual point next time you respond to someone.
>>
>>154363300
I don't like SAO but the designs from this movie look really good
>>
>>154367506
It's like half-good, I'd warrant it a movie watch.
>>
>>154374638
To be honest it's popularity depends on if you can overlook some of it flaws or not. People who can't overlook it will of course keep complaining about it. People who can will enjoy the show regardless, but would like if some things would be better executed.

Of course you have fanboys who think SAO doesn't do anything wrong and perfect, but I disagree with them on that opinion. Just like how I disagree with the hate fandom for this series that would like to shove down how much they hate this series up everyone throat regardless if they accept the series flaws or not.
>>
>>154374983
Oh shit, a reply that isn't "lel u just mad cus soa is popular"

Anyway, I pretty much agree completely. Most people can overlook the bad stuff if it looks cool, and SAO legitimately nails the cool stuff most of the time. Hell, cool > logic is the reason JoJo is so popular, and god knows I love JoJo.

Also, yeah, people who go out of their way to let people know they hate something are pretty awful, and my original post was extremely vitriolic. I just haven't been able to express my opinions to anyone recently, so it all just kind of came spewing out.

Thanks for making a post that actually brings up a good point.

>>
I'd say the movie is worth watching for anyone who's seen both seasons of the show. You don't have to be a SAO superfan to enjoy the movie, if you can find the franchise to be reasonably entertaining then the movie will satisfy. The action scenes are pretty much the highlight of the movie and are the best of the franchise so far. It's amazing how SAO continues to attract top action animation talent.
>>
>>154376500
It's just nine bucks.

This. The plot holes are everywhere but you're already used to that. It's a pretty movie and has really cool effects and action sequences (the AR transformation of the city always got me, even if it reused the opening shot every time)

I just watched it. It was great. I'm actually a fan of SAO unironically but i was on the fence if i wanted to spend money and drive 40 minutes to see it. No regrets. The movie didn't try to be anything its not, it was surprisingly well paced, and none of the characters seemed off.

If you even remotely liked the anime its worth going to see.

just came back from Boston screening. Personally, I really enjoyed it. Dat big-budget final battle. Who here stuck around for the post credits scene?

SAO will return
>>
The fights were great, especially the last boss. Music was great. The story felt passable to me. The character interactions were nice.Overall I liked it.

There must have been a problem with my theaters disc because it kept freezing or skipping audio abruptly.

It was nice to see that the girls were not interested on Kirito anymore.

The last fight scene was kinda nostalgic. Almost cried when Yuuki appeared when Asuna was going to stab the boss.

Kawahara is really improving his writing.

If you haven't seen it, there's a Vocaloid-type AI that is like Sharon Apple but her intentions are entirely different. I drew the comparison because it's mainly due to the fact that there was an AI, and she was misleading people and causing delusions. In this, she was stealing memories in order to rebuild someone who died in SAO as an AI.
>>
>>154399616

went to see SAO Ordinal Scale movie with sibling this evening.
cool sfx and some great fights especially towards the end. some predictable and typical bad guy characters and plotlines, even a character named..Eiji.
also a lame audience ruins a quiet touching moment with expectedly lame reddit tier nerd jokes, which were also going on waiting for movie to start.

>couple girls in the back row constantly talking for the entirety of the first half of the movie and taking selfies with their screens on really bright and being obnoxious fucks

Thank you Master Roshi

Too bad I couldn't follow the first half of the movie at all because of the noise, and it's kind of not fair to the theater to demand a refund for the bullshit a viewer pulls. At least the last half hour was good.

Either they're too busy having panic attacks from PTSD for rational thought, or while they are terrified by the bosses, their rational mind are telling them that the Augma is safe, nothing bad can actually happen to them, and killing one of the boss monsters gives good bonuses, so they keep fighting despite the terror.

It's in the bonus novel you can get watching the movie in the 3rd week in Japan. Yuna discovers her Extra Skill is <<Bard>> with the skill of <<Chant>>. Her songs grant real buffs to players in battle (DEF UP, STUN/RES UP, etc.). She starts joining battles and gets dragged into a boss fight with Klein's guild, gets killed, and gives Eiji a candy jar before she dies. This is why Eiji really hates Klein's guild more than the usual SAO survivors and personally breaks Klein's arm.

Here's the Preview text:
>October 2023, approximately one year after the SAO incident began.
>In this death game where it is impossible to log out, forty floors out of a hundred have been reached. At this front line, the Dragon Knights Brigade, the Divine Division, and Fuurinkazan, compete to beat this game.
>On this day, a new player joined the ranks of the strongest guild, the Knights of the Blood: Nautilus, an ambitious young swordsman skilled with the one-handed sword.
>However, the moment he encountered a high level monster within the dungeon, Nautilus, who had entered to protect the flank of the deputy guild leader Asuna, became no longer able to move due to the "fear of death".
>In the midst of his failure, the Black Swordsman, appearing like a gust of wind, came to assist, therefore making Nautilus very disappointed in himself. Like this, how would he be able to fulfill his promise that day - a promise he had made the day he realized he was in a death game, with a girl more important than anyone else -

It's pretty much about Eiji (then called "Nautilus") trying to be relevant.

Just the summary pretty much explains that one scene in the movie where Asuna passes Eiji during a battle and he says "switch" and Asuna realizes he was an SAO survivor, and former member of her guild. He was probably one of Asuna's admirers, and in his mind that was how him joining the KoB was supposed to go - him fighting alongside Asuna. Then of course he fucked up, and Kirito swooped in to cover his failure. Which partly explains why he seems to have a grudge against Kirito.

I saw the movie yesterday and it was good. It was packed though and I could barely find any seats in the row I was supposed to go too and got lucky to to sit in the front seat corner of the movie.

There was less action then I thought it would be for a 2h 10min movie. Majority of it was spent on talking of the cast members. The second half of the movie felt like a speed-run on Kirito becoming OP and clearing bosses. Asuna conflict was handle pretty well and Kirito was alright. The sounds and animation was pretty good along with the music. I still don't know if Yuna in the hood and the Yuna as the Idol was the same one or not. Since, the Idol Yuna seem to be perfectly fine with what Eiji was doing compared to the hooded one. Also, I found creepy that the Idol Yuna is still alive at the end of the movie despite the hodded one disappearing espiecally knowing who the Idol Yuna is based off of.

They're the same one, in essence. She played along for a while so as not to tip off anyone as to what she was doing, lest they reprogram her or something.

As for what happened at the end, it makes more sense when you notice that the authorities were doing everything they could to keep the incident under wraps, unlike the first and second incidents. This ties in with the "iron triangle" of Japanese industrial politics, as well as the government machinations revealed in Alicization.

The movie wasn't that bad, unless you desperately trying pick out all of it's flaws. As someone who like SAO despite it shortcomings some parts of the movie did bugged me, despite I knew it was going to happened. With Kirito suddenly becoming OP in the second half just by showing a small clip segment of him training to a kendo video of Suguha despite them showing throughout the first half of the film of him being unfit. To the bull-crap reason on why Eiji was super strong in this movie to give Kirito a fighting chance to win.

I don't understand why Yuna father game was not shut down as soon as they discovered it was causing memory loss to SAO survivors who were playing the game and they had actually evidence of it by the people brain scans. Plus, not enough fight scenes in the movie though had room to add more with fight scenes if they weren't quickly skipping over Kirito battles in the second half.

He doesn't even use kendo movement anyway

Some people just want a main character who kicks ass, then fucks the girl.

Others may not want just that, but they've watched a lot of series where the main character gets their ass beaten to show what great odds they face, or how far they must improve; making Kirito a refreshing change.

Others may like some romance in what they watch, but are sick of "romances" that spend the entire series teasing whether or not the characters will confess, or spend the entire thing indecisive. Those people may find Kirito banging the girl early, and the romance being Kirito and Asuna going on genuine dates, a refreshing change.

Plus plenty of people can relate a bit more to some aspects of Kirito. Just looking at the movie, a dude worrying about what college to go to, and doing nice things for his girlfriend, are things people find it a lot easier to empathize with than a "I wanna be the greatest!" Shounen McShounen lead, or "I'm not gay I just don't want to fuck any of these girls right nos!" Harem McHarem lead.

Lots of money sunk into the game, with backing from multiple government industries. Fear of starting a huge panic and a round of lawsuits. And an agency that has shit for authority, and is pretty much a front anyways. So a lot of opposition to overcome who'd demand absurdly strong proof, and the people in charge of dealing with it had every incentive to keep the whole thing under wraps to avoid a scandal.

I think people are being too critical.

For what it was worth, I really enjoyed. Just got back from seeing it.

Remember that Black Yuna is kept alive after the end of Shigemura's plot. Her Deep Learning AI is retained as a songstress and she continues to do PR and give concerts despite that she is no longer a crawler.

It's pretty much confirmed by this point. They can't come out and say "Yes, it's coming out" outright until production is further along, but that "SAO will return" end-card was pretty close to confirmation.
