Vanilla MPV looked better than either CCP or KCP did when I re-evaluated them recently.

I've never had much sucess trying to configure anything using any one of multiple guides over the years so i just leave everything standard, and as standard MPV seemed to be the best although I preferred MPC's GUI; but it's not a deal breaker.

"Signs" only has the OP/ED and Signs, you're suppose to use this with the English Audio.

"English" has OP/ED, Dialogue and Signs, this is for the Japanese audio.
>>
>>154332785
Yeah, I just switched the subtitles to regular English and it's working like it should. I was under the impression that English subtitles only subtitled OP/EN and dialogue, whereas Signs would subtitle everything. Thanks anon, you've saved me from a day of frustration trying to get these to work properly.

Now if I could only figure out how to make these files default to Japanese audio and English subtitles I'd be in business.

mpc and lavfilters is a mess for specifying which subtitle stream you want default when there are mutliple streams of the same language. You can see in your own screenshot that Signs was default and changing that is a mighty hassle.

MPV allows you to choose which stream you want default loaded with a simple text edit but it's mpv

That's pretty fucking recent nigga I watch all my chink cartoons on a 2006 Thinkpad X60 with a Core Duo, works well enough for 720p hi10p, it shits itself on 1080p thanks to the shit iGPU though
Any player should work fine senpai, if you don't want to fuck with anything vanilla MPC-HC x64 is your best option, if you can go without GUI and setting associations manually then mpv is great
MPC-HC+madVR and mpv with higher quality settings would work but you probably will have to tweak them a bit since the iGPU in those Atom's is kinda crappy, but fast enough for pretty much anything not placebo

If you have a nvidia optimus setup then you have to either use nvidia profile inspector and search for the media player classic profile and change this setting or you create a copy of the MPC .exe and name it something else and set it up to run as the default player.
So basically you can blame nvidia since it is part of their driver profile.

madVR is a video renderer used alongside your video player. People mostly use it for the scaling but it has some other features like noise reduction and debanding filters. It pretty much requires a discreet graphics card if you want to use the scaling capabilities to its fullest, though.

MadVR is the main one that could really do with updating since it has had quite a few big fixes since then, while the others are probably still worth updating.
>>
>>154339302
LAVFilters is somewhat faster and has better support for VP9/H265
xysubfilter is mostly bugfixes to work with recent madVR versions
MPC-HC has had minor bugfixes, but 1.7.9 was released in 2015 iirc
madVR had a ton of changes with a lot of new features being added, a lot of shit being broken, and a lot of shit being fixed
>>
Retard here I'm using MPC-HC with MadVR, 2 questions:
1.- I'm usng XySubFilter but when I take screenshots the subs won't appear even if they're in the screen, how I fix this?
2.- Whenever I download a 1080 BD anime in fullscreen mode, the screenshot won't show 1080x1920 resolution, how do I fix this too?
>>

>>

This. mpv can just as easily be altered too.
>>
>>154340224
Big fixes? New features? Potential problems with newer drivers?
I mean something like Windows XP still works, but why would you still want to still use it?
>>
No, seriously - What the fuck is the meme about different players? There is no difference.
You don't see the interface since it's on full screen for 99% of the time, maybe you need to go in to options once or twice (lifetime).
Your brain is not scrutinizing every single frame as it flies by, so image quality doesn't even matter.
Audio is always the same.
The only time player choice matters is when you're restricted by OS.
>>
>>154340388
If you don't need anything new and the old version still works, there's no reason to fix what isn't broken.
Come on now, have you ever experienced a crash in your video player? I've been using mpc for over a decade and it never crashed on me.
>>
>>154340805
I have mostly from Nvidia drivers that fucked with madVR and so madVR had to put out a fix for it.

Since we're discussing madVR, can anyone of you guys tell me if the following madVR settings are the best for a Dell laptop with an SSD, 64-bit Windows 10 installed, an Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 GPU, and a monitor with 1366 x 768 x 60 hertz resolution? I'll be mainly watching stuff on a 40-inch Samsung SmartTV hooked up to my laptop with an HDMI cord.

>Properties: PC-levels for the laptop monitor, TV-levels for the TV, native display bitdepth for both set at 8 bit
>HDR: "Convert HDR content to SDR using pixel shader math" for the PC monitor, "Passthrough HDR content to the display" for the TV
>Deinterlacing: "automatically activate deinterlacing when needed (if in doubt, deactivate deinterlacing)". "Only look at pixels in the frame center" unchecked.
>Artifact Removal: "reduce banding artifacts" and "reduce ringing artifacts" both unchecked
>Zoom control: Not sure which option removes black bars while preserving image quality the best
>Chroma Upscaling: Bicubic75 with anti-ringing filter activated
>Image Downscaling: DXVA2
>Image Upscaling: DXVA2
>General Settings: "delay playback start until render queue is full", "enable windowed overlay", "use Direct3D 11 for presentation", "use a seperate device for presentation", and "use a seperate device for DXVA processing" all checked. Everything else is unchecked.
>Smooth Motion: "Enable smooth motion frame rate conversion...only if there would be motion judder without it" checked.
>Dithering: Ordered Dithering. "Use colored noise" and "change dither for every frame" both checked.
>Trade Quality for Performance: "optimize subtitle quality for performance instead of quality" and "don't rerender frames when fade in/out is detected" both checked. Everything else is unchecked.

I'm particularly wondering what options I should select under "zoom control" and "trade quality for performance".

ReClock is only available in 32-bit, hence why it doesn't work with 64-bit MPC. No matter how many times I tried to install it, ReClock wouldn't come up in the drop-down menu for "Audio Renderer" in the MPC settings. Here's other people stating the same thing:

>I'm particularly wondering what options I should select under "zoom control" and "trade quality for performance".
None
Zoom control is to crop black bars automagically, unless your source is pure shit you shouldn't have black bars
Trade quality for performance does what it's name implies, with those settings you shouldn't need it
btw, when DXVA upscaling/downscaling is used chroma upscaling has no effect, since all of it is done using DXVA2
The HD3000 is too slow for anything but bilinear and DXVA2 in madVR, it can do bicubic/spline/lanczos but not on everything and usually will overheat laptops
DXVA2 has better quality than bicubic on Intel iGP's, bordering on the quality lanczos/spline do, with much better performance
So you pretty much have it right, the only way to improve it would be by setting the refresh rates your TV supports on the properties for the TV
>>154341792
ReClock is abandoned, there's sanear which is new but I left MPC-HC years ago so I never tried it

Sup, just suggesting potplayer cause no one does.
It seems unfair to me. It really does it's job well. Internal codecs played properly many files that using LAV or other stuff looked broken. And i remember many MPC/MPV users struggling playing some complex subs from an anime movie (summer wars) and potplayer did it with his built-in subs filter without any struggle or particular option.
It really deserve at least a mention in those threads.

Thanks so much for your response anon, this really helps. I just have a few foll-up questions:

>Zoom control is to crop black bars automagically, unless your source is pure shit you shouldn't have black bars
Yeah, I realize that. However, I recently downloaded that 720p webrip of Your Name and it has black bars, so I was wondering what setting would get rid of them the best (and I'm too much of an impatient faggot to wait to see Your Name in theaters).

>Trade quality for performance does what it's name implies, with those settings you shouldn't need it
Okay I'll leave everything unchecked then

>btw, when DXVA upscaling/downscaling is used chroma upscaling has no effect, since all of it is done using DXVA2
So should I bother selecting anything under chroma upscaling then?

>The HD3000 is too slow for anything but bilinear and DXVA2 in madVR, it can do bicubic/spline/lanczos but not on everything and usually will overheat laptops
>DXVA2 has better quality than bicubic on Intel iGP's, bordering on the quality lanczos/spline do, with much better performance
Yeah, I've kept using DXVA2 for upscaling/downscaling, but I keep finding conflicting answers for chroma upscaling. You're saying to use bilinear, but I've also seen people recommend softcubic(0.70)+AR, lanczos 3 tap, bicubic 75, bicubic 75+AR, etc.

So yeah, I'm really not sure who to believe for chroma upscaling. My HD 3000 seems to be able to handle bicubic 75, but do you think using it at that setting over time will damage it?

Again, thanks so much for your help anon, I'll check out MPV and I'll remember what you said about asking /g/ for help.

madVR uses your GPU to upscale, not your CPU. At least refrain from posting if you actually have no idea what you're talking about.

what are cr rips
>>
>>154349553
Everything on horriblesubs is a crunchyroll rip. They have a particular way of translating anime that is intended to avoid even the specter of a cease and desist.

I have downloaded from HB ONCE, now I use nyaa for bd rips

Pfft. You call that a toaster? Try watching anime on this thing.

If I can watch 480p 10bit 720p+ stutters, you can watch whatever you want.

I've been using mpv for a while now and it's great how quickly it loads the videos compared to mpc-hc. The only thing I'm missing from mpc-hc is the subtitle downloader but it's no big deal.

>>154332343
Yeah, but luckily there's a script for that

I wish KCP didn't die.

I don't like to ass myself with all this shit just so I can say to myself how fucking "computer literate" I am.

Why do so many people appear to use smooth motion instead of just configuring madVR to switch to the appropriate refresh rate in the first place? It can do so automatically and switches back when you close your player. You may need to create something like a 24 or 48Hz custom resolution, but this can be done straight from the NVIDIA/AMD control panels and I personally haven't ever had a screen where 48Hz didn't work. This seems like a universally better solution than smooth motion to me, unless you're unlucky and your monitor can neither support 24Hz out of the box nor can it display 24/48Hz with a custom resolution.

You may not get something like 1 repeated frame every 8 minutes or w/e you get on a screen that can take 23.976Hz out of the box, but even with a custom resolution you should get like 1 repeat every 30-60s, that sounds more than good enough for practical viewing purposes, I don't think anyone can easily notice an extra frame each minute or some shit.

Is there a reason why it died? It really shouldn't be hard to make a new version by inserting the latest releases of shit into the installer.
>>
Why do they all have shitty GUI ? I'll stick CCCP which works fine.

You have to go into the settings menu and configure SMPlayer to use mpv as the backend, once you've installed it via your package manager.

Just manually do it yourself. It is really not hard to install mpc + madvr and other plugins
