It's pretty clear that Touno also has some problem with the fantasy part of the standard dragon quest type story, and chose to take it to task in the most boring econ 101 way possible.

Neither is a proper representation of Hero and Devil King, in my opinion. Left was more so a parody of Dragon Quest and a mix of Spice and Wolf. In right's story, the the hero's mother was supposed to unite humans and demons into one army against an apocalyptic army of angels, but she fucked up, and never taught the would-be-demon lord that humans were beings of equal.
