Guts hits a realization inside Casca's mind, that he has been the one who hurt her the most in his mad bid for revenge.

Last chapters are Guts fighting against the berserker armor and Griffith declaring open war against the Idea of Evil and the God Hand. Guts barely manages to defeat his armor and Griffith dies in battle although his followers carry on and defeat the last of the God Hand.

Guts ends up as an invalid barely able to move on his own (from damage he had already taken from wearing the armor), being cared for by the elves and Schierke with Casca, who never gets cured but regains her affection for Guts.

1st chapter: Casca is cured of her insanity after a battle with the mental incarnation of her rape issues between farnese and schierke. The end of the chapter is Guts smiling with tears in his eye looking ten years younger while looking at casca

2nd chapter: The first half of the chapter is a date scenario between guts and casca in elfenheim as he explains everything up that point and continues explaining that he'll go back to kill griffith and the godhand. At this point casca pulls him away from his murderous delusions and pleads with him to give up on revenge and remain here with her. He solemnly agrees after looking back on everything he's done and realizing he was only ever happy when he had friends by his side. The chapter ends with the berserker armor abandoned in the woods of elfenheim covered in vines and with nature sprites playing in it

3rd chapter: We switch to the white falcon pondering on the city. One of the godhand approach him from the shadows and questions "Now what's the next in your master plan" or something similar at which point griffith's sword suddenly impales them and he declares "My dream has been fulfilled, I have no need for you any longer." The rest of the chapter shows the city descending into chaos as the remaining three godhand ally against the white falcon and assault the city

4th Chapter: Basically details the war between griffith and the godhand, a massive amount of pages detailing action scenes as apostles are killed left and right and the godhand are destroyed one by one, ending in a battle between griffith and void wherein zodd sacrifices his life for griffith. void does some space fuckery and still injures griffith however. The chapter ends with skull knight appearing before an injured griffith.

5th chapter: Rickert and Silat watch as the world returns to the normal and magic once again returns to interstice. Our final image is that of dragonslayer leaned against a wall covered in rust.

I don't think it's him planting ups and downs in the seriousness/edge of the manga ahead of time and instead him just writing what he feels like at the time, as he is quoted many times that he doesn't plan the story that far into the future.
