In regards to Momo, I feel I would have preferred she realize she just wants Rito for herself. The fact that she still wants the harem seems so twisted after spending all of Darkness realizing she couldn't stand being anything less than 1st.

If you read the final part of the first TLR. Momo once told Nana she would have been okay being a concubine. So, the harem plan started so that Rito could be with Lala and Haruna, and also so that Momo (and other girls) could hop in, even if she wasn't the one Rito loved the most. She thought the other girls could do the same, which isn't an odd thing, considering harem isn't an odd thing in her planet.

However, as she got closer to Rito during TLR:D's story, she began to truly fall in love for him. Rito wasn't just a guy she had a hard crush on, but started to become a person that. in addition to have become part of her everyday life, was someone she came to know considerably well, know his strong and weak points and regardless of those, she still found herself loving him. In turn, Rito also got to spend a lot with her, and got to know her rather intimately in any ways, so she wasn't a stranger or just some acquaintance like she used to be by the end of TLR.

Though her actions seem hypocritical, much of her actions was just the result of her immaturity and her lack of knowledge on love. She only came to understand love properly by the end of TLR:D, which is why she told Rito how she truly felt, and said she wouldn't be happy with a harem any more.

Although Momo was the female lead during TLR:D, her own development was all over the place and in short bits, probably because her main role was to keep pushing the harem plan. So, I understand why some people wouldn't like her, especially when much of her character was pretty much limited to that, and it made it seem as if Momo had nothing else to her life other than Rito.

I hope, if there's a sequel, her character can be freed from the harem plan, or at least give her enough freedom to develop her character on aspects not related to Rito.

Regarding a sequel, unlike others, I'm not hoping for Nana or Mea to be female leads. Though a change in female leads would be refreshing, and I don't think either of the are cut to take that role.

That's actually a really huge step up from how TLR ended first, where only Lala and Rito knew they love each other.

From the special book interviews, what happens is this:
Hasemi formulates a plan
Yabuki and Hasemi start talking about how this goes, with Yabuki adding stuff here and there
Yabuki goes and executes

It's like how if someone drafts a speech, they do all the legwork, they present it to the speaker, speaker works with the drafter to make changes, and then the speaker goes out with the modified speech.

It takes a lot of work drawing comics, so it helps to create really nice storylines before drawing. In the first TLR series, Hasemi also wrote short LN-type stories for TLR in the manga as extras.
