Not really knocking the translators in this case, there's just no way it's ever going to be good. With something prosey like a novel, even if the source is fantastic literary material and you've got some kind of fucking academic genius doing the translation, there's still no guarantee the TL will come out good.

There is such an incredible degree of artistry involved in a good translation of a novel from Japanese, it's too much to ask of fans. It takes a fantastic author and a seasoned editor at least.

Manga squeaks by well enough. So few words, so many pictures. A novel is a tough ask, though.

"Is It Sunny out in the Mountains?" has been adapted well in the anime, while "The Mirror Can't Reflect" and "Even Though I'm Told I Now Have Wings" are from old Kodakawa magazine issues.

Plot wise, the only important chapter is the last one.
