I remember one volume of madoka where several pages were completely replaced with onomatopeias effectively covering all the art under japanese symbols. What a loat of horseshit.

And they stopped releasing good manga long ago, nowadays it's either shoujo tier shit or le zombies xDDDD and other memes like Junji Ito
>>
>>154176508
>>154176584
Those a clearly four separate versions of that onomatopoeia.

But they just had to replace it with one big one.

Is there a Japanese dictionary for onomatopeia?
>>
>>154182041
>read it online

There's that thing about print on paper vs reading on a lcd screen... but I guess the millenials who grew up with iphönes and surfboads or whatever don't understand this part.
>>
>>154182041
Printed pages have a higher dpi and better reflectiveness. This aids reading.

If you buy Japanese manga (volumes) the furigana would probably be easier to decipher.

Buying stuff has also the nice side-effect of supporting that mangaka indirectly. (If the English publisher did not buy the whole license at a flat fee. On that note: How much cash does flow back from buying licensed manga?)
>>
>>154184280
That's why I started learning moonrunes. The first thing which you need to do is kana and grammar. Beginning was hard, I needed to use a dictionary for almost all sentences. But with every next volume which I read, I remembered more and more kanji and whole words.
Btw reading original manga is a whole new experience. You don't have any localization, you have all honorifics, original puns, humour, sounds etc. Yeah it's obvious, but hey, people don't even know how many things are changed and lost in translation.
The best publisher is obviously Seven Seas. Their translations are the most faithful. Still not that good like Red Hawk Scanlation, but for official publisher they are really the best.
>>
>>154184392
Even if the publisher did straight up buy the license you are still indirectly supporting the author by making the licensing profitable for the publisher thus increasing the chances they would pay (more) for additional titles.
>>
I'd complain to this company autistically for weeks until they stop.

All Polish releases are bad. It's just a matter of how bad they are. The worst thing is the fact that many of people are liking it actually. Generally the worst translations has Studio Jg, they are even changing the names of characters. JPF is awful (especially) if it comes to comedy, basically all jokes are rewritten, they are inserting references to Polish popculture. More serious titles are just bad. Waneko is translating from English in many cases, and they are inserting a lot of memes too.
All Polish publishers are cutting off honorifics, all of them are erasing original onomatopeias.
Basically there is no reason to even consider buying Polish releases. Of course it's not only my opinion. I know tons of people who are buying English releases, or original Japanese.
Of course if you like butchered translations like this, then well, just buy it.

This is how they handle sounds in swedish translations. I also like how they kept the original reading order and didn't mirror everything like americans do.

Or maybe I should have said "handled", we had one good translator who did dragonball and some other mainstream manga, he also published some 90s anime with subs. But then someone found loli on his website and reported him. It was all over the news for months, feminists going on about pedos and completely misunderstanding the context of everything. In the end it was considered legal but his reputation was ruined and it basically made everyone stop translating and publishing anime and manga in sweden.

>>
>>154195676
A TV channel did something similar in Italy, but the program was mostly about underage prostitution in Japan and it didn't focus on manga and anime very much.
Also in the early 00's one publisher was forced to cover Bulma's ass in one of our many Dragon Ball editions, but they removed the censorship in the next ones. It was pretty based on their part.

Polish anime and manga industry is a cancer all the way. Fansubs and scanlations are even worse. Imagine the fact that all the subs and scans are commie/coalguys tier.
Then imagine the fact that 80% of anime fans are watching their cartoons with subs which has NOTHING to do with original dialogues (usually 'translated' from the worst English options, like mentioned earlier commie). Then imagine talking with these people about anime. Fuckin hell.

>When did this happen?

Around 2011 I think. Dragonball was finished (42 volumes), love hina too, but a lot of manga was just cancelled halfway, like yotsuba, eva, some other I don't remember the title of. It was about a swordsman with a demon inside himself? I don't know how far they got with one piece and ranma but I doubt those were finished. Today noone seems to publish manga here.
>>
>>154195045
Polish releases range from barely acceptable to atrocious. The main offenders are horrible typesetting and abysmal font choices making an average scanlating group look like gods and questionable translations, often way too localized with no real QC (as if only close friends were doing it, without any real editors). The funny thing is that releases that were done by a publisher dealing with western comics were the best and those by manga-specialized publishers were often vomit-inducing. Some of the older releases like Gunsmith Cats are thus OK, while vast majority of the newer ones are just sad to look at. You literally only buy them to support the author and if you want to actually read, you get American releases for 4-5 times the cost instead.

The normally leftie state tv actually argued in defense of the translator, showing pics of kid Goku in the nude and Bulma lifting her skirt to ridicule the accusers. Sweden is generally very ok with nudity, even what would be considered sexualized clothing is ok on kids. It's just the actual nudity or strict sexual references that are outlawed.

It seems to have worked since the case was eventually dropped, but all publishing companies got scared of manga and noone would hire the translator again. He also got fired from his job as a school teacher.

You don't have to write to much.

Call the blog: Why do we have to put up with this, or something.

Fuck toxic Fandom. Who cares about them.

Meanwhile manga publishing in Sweden crashed.

(Is that still the case?)
>>
>>154198464
But this is Sweden and it shouldn't really be a point for comparision
>>
>>154198185

I also hate the leftie Sweden. You should know a lot of people here consider this "leftie sweden" to be a cancer that's been inserted from outside and from above, it's not the real sweden. Politicians and "cultural workers" have been hijacking the swedish government apparatus since the 50s and the distance between them and the real swedes has grown extreme. You can see this manifesting in the sweden democrats being close to the 2nd largest party despite being constantly hated on in all media and labeled as nazis, racists, criminals... It's probably not so different from the US and why Trump won.

The translator is named Simon Lundström.

Would you mind posting a picture of it if you own it, is it hardcover or like the fat Dark Horse releases they did for Astro Boy?

And can anyone tell me why Ping Pong hasn't been licensed yet in English but the author's other books have?

Social Science is broken via ideology:
http://quillette.com/2017/03/03/why-social-scientists-should-not-participate-in-the-march-for-science/
>Many have criticized social science research for being ideologically biased and, frankly, many of these criticisms are fair. For one, social scientists have spent decades using sloppy empirical methods, or no methods at all, to make the case that conservatives uniquely possess a number of undesirable personal characteristics (e.g., prejudice and intolerance). However, as I discussed in an article for Scientific American, recent studies reveal methodological flaws of past research and show that liberals are no more tolerant or nondiscriminatory than conservatives.

I don't think that's how it works if you are telling him to start blogging about this shitty publishers. There are a lot of people (plebs) that are going to defend it.
>>
>>154198464

Yes. We can still buy imported english translations from US or UK but they all mirror and censor.

If Ghost in the shell had been released here for example I'm sure we would have had that original lesbian scene because the climate here wouldn't allow that to be censored rather than the other way around. I don't really know why it turned out like this. Someone may point out that all major publishers here are run by jews, but considering the normal logic this should give a different result, why would they back off here, from a small case like this. If he had been convicted it was just a matter of a small fine. Even if it had been legit cp that's still just a fine if someone has a small number of timid nudes. There's no logic in any of this.

I wonder why no one wrote about how shitty Polish manga are. But as you said, most of anime fans in Poland are plebians, so no wonder why our market looks like this.

Not manga but also just started Hellboy
>>
>>154198894
Yea, basically if anyone is aware of that they do the smart thing and buy either english or jap ones. Can't do shit with this just by complaining about it on a blog. There are more idiots that doesn't mind this kind of butchering then there are people who acutally hate it.
>>
>>154198910
I used Google Translate extensively when translating stuff, just fixing up mistakes in the resulting translation.

(You have time to post on an Imageboard.)

Create a en.Wikipedia account

Go to User:YOURUSERNAME/Sometestarticle and just post a quick translation of the first paragraph.

You don't even need an Email for Wikipedia-Accounts.
>>
>>154198807
>but they all mirror and censor

I'm pretty sure nobody does that anymore. Shomin Sample has loli butt. Love in Hell has loli tits. And there's Kodomo no Jikan coming too.
>>
>>154199082

Wikipedia is work, /a/ is leisure. I just don't have the interest for it.
>>
>>154199077
Best thing would probably be side-by-side infographics with page under page.

Manga translations "Spot the difference."

And then hope it gets some traction.

Nothing will change if nobody complains.
>>
>>154199205
You know. I would do it myself if I could speak Swedish. But there's that.

You won't even consider fixing up a Google Translate'd version of the first paragraph. (And I doubt that version would be too far off.)

You don't even have to create the Article.

User:YOURUSERNAME/Simon_Lundstr%C3%B6m
User:YOURUSERNAME/Mangam%C3%A5let

Would be pages in the "User:"-namespace of Wikipedia, and not be visible to search engines.
>>
>>154199208
That may be true but like I said a lot of people are going to defend it, maybe that way we could change a few small things but that's still too little to be tolerable. As long as these retarded 16 year olds are going to buy this garbage without care the publisher is not going to change anything major anyway.
>>
>>154199077
I actually read about year ago an article in some blog about how shitty is Polish manga (written in Polish) with a lot of references to Western releases and original. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the site.
I found the link on the one of cancerous forum (waneko?), all the people there were shitposting about the author, and they proposed to the publishers for taking him to the court (yes, Polish plebians have no brains). Of course they stated that the author know nothing about translation and Japanese. No comment.
>>
>>154199385

I browse this place to relax, thinking about stuff like that is too much. Just put up a google translate version of the swedish one and have someone else fix it if you think this is important. Take it to /int/ or something.
>>
>>154179776
I'm to dumb to learn a third language. So I'll take the retarded translation.
>>
>>154199537
That's exactly to be expected of them. It's funny though that those retards bash everyone telling that they don't know jap when they themselves only know a few fucking words and just blindly believe everything the publisher is saying.
>>
>>154199522
Publisher probably hopes that those 16yo won't find out on FB or 9gag or some other polish social media platform.

>>
>>154199741
Personally I think they're pretty nice, but I haven't read the original scans. I've seen people taking issue with them using the redraws instead of the original and the translation quality though.
Seeing the 2-page spreads in that big-ass format is cool in any case.
>>
>>154199836
Nah, that retards are already defending redrawn sounds and lack of honorifics. They are scared of Japanese symbols.
>>
>>154199767

It's not?
When I'm even too tired to read or watch 20 min episode because I can't focus that long, coming here to shitpost a while as a break is perfect.
>>
>>154200076
Even "they chose not to cover the whole image" would suffice.
>>
>>154198894
I put in Google 'jakość tłumaczeń polskich mang' and actually some interesting links appeared. Even on Wykop they are criticizing it. I didn't expect that.
The worst cancer is available to read on all official forums (waneko, Kotori etc). But it seems that those normies are only active on that boards.

I don't have a time to read all of it now, I'm going sleep because I need to get up for work at 4:00, but I will search deeper tomorrow.

Spirit circle is getting licensed? I own Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer but had no idea it was considered.

Any series you'd wish get reprinted? I'd love a good reprint of Hokuto no Ken and Galaxy Express 999 but I doubt 999 will ever be reprinted in English again since the rights are supposed to be difficult to acquire. I'm hoping with Leiji titles coming out in English recently then maybe. Drifting Classroom is also something else I'd like Viz to reprint. I think volume 7 or so is out of print and ridiculously hard to find but the rest of the series seems to be still printing.

I just recently got to the point where I can comfortably read raw shounen manga. I'd just been doing a bunch of studying prior to that, since reading raw stuff had been humiliating and demoralizing in the past. Then one day I picked up One Piece and it was like the fucking Matrix where Neo could see the code. Frankly I thought it would never happen.

So it's possible.
