Not OP, but I actually like that about this manga.

It's not so much that she's winning, it's more like her opponents have flaws that lead to them losing; it makes those opponents fairly compelling.

Before you accuse Yumeko of being a Mary Sue, here's an alternative view: she's being portrayed as better displaying the "spirit" or "proper attitude" for gambling. Huh, this is kinda hard to put into words. For all that's she got the crazy compulsive thing going on, she seems to have an aesthetic about gambling that maybe predisposes her to winning more often than others. Something something "pure gambler" something something. Sorry if I'm not being very clear on this.

Her luck rivals Danganronpa's Nagito, except she's not deliberate in using it. I don't know if I'd call her a Mary Sue at this point. She's incredibly dominant in terms of gambling, borderline broken, but show revolves around gambling. And the respect and reputation she has was naturally grown. People didn't particular care for her when she came in, she was treated like everyone else when she dropped down to pet status and when people realized that she was a genuine threat to the council, they treated her with respect. It doesn't come across as though the show revolves around her to cater to her whim, more like the school has a certain flow but she's a disruptive force to it.

Well put, that's a good way to look at it.

The male MC is unforgivable. There's nothing I can say about him other than that he could be replaced by an off-screen narrator and the story would be better off for it.

The female MC is charming at first but that quickly fades away as you soon realize every arc is the same, with her being the main cause of that. The 'matches' between her and her opponent become increasingly outlandish and retarded as the plot goes on. You can tell the author keeps trying to one-up himself because he won't diverge from the repeating plot.

The only real interesting characters are the two side-girls, and even they only have their brief moments to shine before they're pushed off to the side so we can get more of the female MC.

Two things I'd do to improve the manga, both different:

1. Make the male MC more prominent. Make him like Rock from Black Lagoon where he starts out weak and pathetic with hints of craziness/greatness then build on that over the story to where he falls deeper down the rabbit hole as the manga ends

2. Make it an all-girls school and just go all out with the fanservice, full yuri. I hate yuri but the manga often tears itself over whether it wants to go full yuri or just bait and tease a het couple. The male characters in the manga at this point are useless so it wouldn't be a great loss. The only interesting male character was the (actually awful generic) glasses guy who was promptly killed off and pushed off-screen.

That actually pissed me off the most, when the fucking idol who shit all over her fans got applauded and the guy trying to save the school was humiliated and thrown out.

Overall it's not bad, but it could be a lot more.

Liar Game has a strong start and an interesting cast but the story is bullshit even in the vacuum of a Japanese gambling manga, and it gets really weak as it approaches its end.

Some games are gambling. Some are not. I also questioned it's presence on the list but I figure some of the games in the recent volumes fit more closely with the more "extended" definitions of gambling games youll find in Akari and liars game.

There is a roughly 50/50 split between intellectual challenges and physical challenges though. And the physical challenges almost always revolve around enduring some element or some variant of tag or Capture the Flag. Those aren't really gambling under any definition I'd say. Ultimately though it is a death game themed series and not strictly speaking a gambling series
