I started rewatching it and got to the second season recently, Shampoo's grandma arc. The animation took a dive since the cat episode, I'm sure the first 4 were already animated since last season. Does the animation get better again? I haven't watched Ranma in a decade.

Where? The only time in the series Soun shows concern about money is the 10 Yen Bet Arc where Nabiki chucks millions of yen in dept at her family as part of the whole "fight" with Kinnosuke.

Ranma 1/2 follows sitcom rules. No matter how much things get blown up everything will be fine by the next arc. Repair costs" aren't a thing to worry about once the chapter ends.
