Just saw Kimi no Na wa at the NYCIFF and the movie does live up to the hype. The characters and visuals were fantastic and the sound direction was top notch. It's a really heartwarming story. The only issue the movie has is the plot which while simple and good somewhat falls apart when you realize thateverything could have been resolved nearly instantly had one character taken a look at the current year.

maybe like the magic shit that caused them to switch in the first place made them overlook that or something?

But anon ITS THE CURRENT YEAR COME ON!

"How did you cross through space-time?"
I drank your spit.
"Really?!"
Yeah.
If you haven't seen this movie yet, too bad.
Also, you didn't miss anything, this movie's plot fucking sucked.
>Amerilards are only just seeing this

Lucky, wanted to go see at that festival but was sold out by the time i realized it was playing nearby.
In regards to the spoiler, how often do you even check the year on your phone, and on top of that when they were body swapping everything was dream-like to them so i doubt they noticed little details.
Also its a movie for the heart, not the brain.
Also just came back from seeing it at NYCIFF. I really enjoyed it but i'll admit, the fact neither of them checked the year over the countless times they switched bugged me.
Still made me feel something.

That's the thing about Shinkai's work in general. All style and very little substance; not bad, but not spectacular, fun to watch but not really memorable.

One thing I genuinely don't get: why did the diary entries get deleted from the Taki's phone?
