Free is the most innovative show KyoAni has ever made. Instead of 3-5 girls in a highschool it's 3-5 guys in a highschool.

I want the same thing, but Kanon is awful. Will take me forever. Got through the first season of Free, and the second will probably also be watchable. At least it doesn't have a protagonist as bad as Kanon.
I really dread watching Clannad, twice as long as Kanon and Kanon is bad enough, it will be unbearable.

I'm the same as OP, I've seen all Kyoani works except Free season two. I think the first season was more or less restrained in the gay department, but season two was unleashed, I couldn't pass two episodes.

It is really worth it to try again?

Not really. I enjoyed Free season 2, but if you aren't liking it there isn't anything that happens later to make it drastically better.

On the note of moeshit, I generally dislike it because nothing happens, but K-On has been quite good so far. Of course it's always helpful when a show looks good on top of being interesting.
