Huh, watching youtube videos of the mobile's story, "Kako" is actually a game character too. She doesn't appear on screen, but Mirai mentions she was caught by the Ceruleans when they took over the Park Central (it was meant to be an entertainment and commercial district, also with hotels and other stuff for lodging, although the only thing visually shown is a theme park-like castle in the game). Almost all the staff escaped, but she stayed behind.

I guess this pretty much confirms she's going to be in the anime? She had no design in the game but then there's art for her in the TCG. Maybe she's going to be the one underground then.

It doesn't seem like the kind of show to have a dark twist. Some people think it's masquerading as an educational show for kids but is actually some super deep post-apocalyptic tragedy.

I think that there have been some foreboding signs so far, but it would be weird for there to be some kind of complete tonal shift in a series as innocent as this one. I'm just hoping that the ending is happier than the ED would have me believe

Descriptions like this don't do justice to the nature of penguin feathers. The outer feathers can lock together with teeth, using the same structure you see if you rub your finger along the edge of any other bird feather. They're all zippered up in a way. This form helps water to run off the penguin so it doesn't hang on long enough to ice up.

Underneath that coat they're actually not densely covered in down feather, but do have an extra third layer of feathers that stick to the skin and hold the heat to it like body hair. Their method is layers not quantity per inch.

Also, as flightless birds it used to be thought penguins didn't have the sensitive feathers most birds use to adjust to air currents in flight. They do in fact have them to help both in swimming and ensuring their feathers are groomed and oily.

Ceruleans, derived from latin caelum which literally means "the heavens", are most likely the angels trying to drive them out of eden then.

All versions of the story seem to be in different universes right now.

Manga - Sandstar fell, but there seem to be no Ceruleans around. Japari Park opened like intended, no major issues. Friends/Animal Girls live with constant human contact.

Mobage - Sandstar fell and Ceruleans appeared. Park closed to visitors, but Mirai (Park Guide) remained behind and she's soon joined by the player character who receives a mysterious invite and has a magical amulet that boosts the power of Friends. Together with Serval and other Friends they travel around the park helping other Frieds and retaking the park, hoping to one day reopen it.

Anime- According to the official site, somewhere in this world the Park opened at some point in the past, but... what we actually see in the anime itself.

Friends are singular living repositories of all the genetic information needed to resurrect their species. Japari Park is a self-perpetuating ecosystem containing all the information needed to restore the world to its future state, left by the last humans. Kaban, of course, is the human Friend, whose existence is the last key needed for Japari Park to fulfill its true purpose.

In Episode 12, Kaban finds machinery in a facility that will consume Japari Park, recreate all the animals and people, and restore the world to its former state. Despite being sad to see each other go, the true wish of the Friends is to see their species, and the world, restored to their primeval glory.
