Author set up a really serious relationship between a boy and a girl but then decided not to pair them up, instead having him go after a 14 year old when he's like 28

The show was at its best when it was about the characterization and relationship between the girl who was going to die and the lead. Him slowly figuring out that fact, coming to terms with it and trying to save her were all exciting and engaging parts of the story.

It went to complete shit when the time travel device was re-introduced as a major component of the plot because it gave the protagonist too much power and the story was no longer about a relationship but some superhero bullshit.

I don't agree with the fact that the show went to shit because of the cuckening, just it represents the awful direction the story went in.
