It was already a plot hole to begin with, only because people assumed there was only 8 months of recharge time and he left off soon after that.
Later on fuel recharge time was expanded to 3 years in the epilogue of the Cell arc.
Finally, the biggest issue with theorycrafters is that they take Daizenshuu's word on the years as definitive canon even though only once was a year ever mentioned within the actual manga.
