The fights in FT were decent to say the least until like the timeskip? Then there's the typical "Hurr she's Erza" bs that makes people vomit even after the dragon revelation. Post time skip the fights were OKAY but this arc here is just complete shit, feels incredibly rushed, forced, and overall a mess. Hiro should have let Natsu rampage around the field in END form until he encountered Acnologia and had an epic brawl, the end. END vs. Gray got hyped up way too much but Erza had to jump in and fuck everything in the ass once again.

I wouldn't even be mad if FT got a sequel, then again he has like 5 other FT spin off's going on so I doubt it.

Fairy Tail is probably getting the typical married with kids shounen ending.

Back during the middle of the GMG arc, in response to people asking if the series was ending, Mashima said he had at least 3 arcs in mind, and gave a rough estimate of 15-20 volumes for those. The GMG arc ended during volume 40, and since then we've had two short arcs and two long arcs (this being the second long one) depending on how you want to cut it. Next volume out will be volume 60, and we'll still have at least a few more volumes after it. So Mashima's years ago estimate was low.

For most of the series, Zeref and Acnologia were the only two possible candidates for the final boss of the series we started this arc with both of them being explicitly involved, and no other possible villain groups left active. People have been calling it the final arc for a year now, with Mashima tossing around terms like "final battle with Zeref" in volume afterwords. This is merely confirmation.

Have you ever actually looked at yearly sales data? At it's peak Fairy Tail was topping out at over 550,000 copies per volume. And that was as recent as 2014. Even in 2016 it was topping out at around 450,000 copies per volume. It just tends to either have volumes with their sales split between years, or sales split by having a limited edition and a regular edition. And I'm pretty sure the last time I saw sales data for volume 1, it was past the 700k mark. And that's just in Japan, when the series is fairly popular the world over, and that 60 million number is for world wide.

Supposedly the guy has good relations with his editors, and he either convinced them that whatever he does next will be just as big as FT, or it's going to be a sequel series and so it wouldn't be a real reset of consumer interest.

I'd like to see Mashima work on a more independent and mature series. I like how when I see his interviews, he comes off very conservative and mature and want to see an epic series like that where I can take him and his work seriously that makes me want to forget rave master or fairy tale existed.

I think he's definitely got the potential for an independent series and would love to see him put something good and cool like that out, especially for a monthly. He's good for it now compared to back then.

One Piece will end at around 1200 chapters. After that Jump will try to milk it, like naruto(boruto) or dragon ball(dragon ball super). So 1200 chapters + milking= 1500-1600 chapters + 1000+ episodes anime + at least 4-5 more movies. So in short it will end in 20-25 years.

Not that there was a big plan in first way, certainly the final boss have been hinted since the beginning, but basically each arc was mostly self contained and even a bit "random" leading it no particularry nothing (Being Edolas the prime example). Each new arc reconected each previous arc in a "it was actually part of my plan" but never was a proper hinting or correlation.

So, yes, it feels like the natural conclusion cause the final boss was always meant to be the same but plotwise never felt like one big thing. It was like just adding more shit until he finally decided to go with the main issue
