Yugioh season 0 was never intended to be anything like it's later version with the TCGs.

This version of yugioh was more about Yami yugi possessing Yugi. He didn't know it and had no initial say. The first eps are almost the same. In this series, they played a variety of games, including "Magics and Wizards" which later became "duel monsters" and as we know it today, "yugioh" The game was played almost completely different with different back art as well.

AFAIK there's no english dub of this version and likely never will be.

Yes. Just like the original Dragon Ball and Urusei Yatsura were aimed at kids. Think back to when you were 12, didn't you enjoy dirty jokes and perverted humor? Kids in that age range are the prime audience for these series and the authors write accordingly. Also, lets be real here, fansubbers often add a little (or a lot sometimes) edge to the show they're working on, especially when they want to make it seem like more than a children's show. The original Japanese may not have been that blunt.
