It's heavily implied Sorey became a seraph, thus the reason he found Mikleo again in the first place. The last cutscene of the game is called 'Eternal Dream' and the music that comes on is called 'Important Feelings'.

Rose did get a disproportionate part in skits that didn't even have to do with her. Still, I prefer her as Sorey's squire than Alisha because it's not something that's done very often between female/males in JRPGs. Alisha is pretty standard as far as that goes.

Of course, Rose still caused the shafting of Sorey's character in the same way she and Alisha are doing in the anime so now it's like two large buses caught in the traffic jam on the road that is Sorey's journey.

They didn't even fight Meduasa in this, Sorey reached Pendrago (finally) in the last episode only to get a paged by Alisha on how she's too useless and needs him to come purify Ladylake. No there hasn't been any progression in regards to beating Hedalf either or no acknowledgement that they need to do so for that matter.

It's pretty much just been filler episode after filler episode.

Her refusal to undo her past kind of flies in the face of the ending then, since she's literally undoing the past in that case by imagining a world where her brother didn't get prison-shanked by Artorius.

Velvet also never explicitly said she didn't want to come back. She expressed a desire to explore the world with Phi and basically bonded with the current crew that she already was with. She began to enjoy living life again and repairing everything especially after that scene where Phi punches the shit out of Kanomushi. There were multiple conversations where Velvet also said she wanted to do more stuff after the battle if she survived. She only went with Innominat because she had to at the moment and would have killed herself and Phi as they are both parts of Kanomushi. So that kind of throws away the, "She doesn't even want to come back" part. That's more or less your interpretation which is open to other views.

Also, she could literally come back any time should someone want to use Kanomushi and use him to fuck up the world (i.e. Seraphs who wanted to use him as a weapon). I'm not one to usually to go for bullshit but the EX Dungeon information as well as the open plot points left by Zestiria (the game, not this piece of shit anime) still have some potential to bring back Velvet and Sorey, should the game call for it.

I'm not trying to say you're saying bullshit, but you are making a lot of assumptions (which fair to say, I am as well) of events which can be open to interpretation. I don't give two shits about what happens in the anime since I'm note even watching it to begin with. However, I do think that a third game with her is warranted and could appear.

Also, FF tended to kill off characters permanently until Lightning, which is where all the shit started faling apart imo in terms of quality.

Also, I don't really think the cameo fights are canon perse. I mean it involves a Golden Penguin claiming to be god as well as Jude and Milla there. I usually treat post-game quests as canon but in this particular case, I see cameo battles as non-canon.

But in any case, I believe Velvet has a legitimate case to come back because all of the examples you listed were her refusal to change the past, not the future. If she so desires to fix the future, she can do it anytime and look upon the world that Phi cleaned up for her.

Lightning survived FFXIII with no bad consequences whatsoever. In XIII-2 she got temporarily crystallized, but she wasn't considered dead. In the third game she got unfrozen and everything went on as normal.

In short, the games never pretended she would die for real. Bringing back Noctis for example, who got murdered several times over, would require some Marvel-comics tier bullshit, but with Lightning it was never an issue.

There is no afterlife, familia. Officially it's "up to interpretation", but the credits scenes, music name, and the fact that we know what the real afterlife in that world looks like (losing your nature and haunting objects if you a Lucian monarch), suggests it was just a dying dream, just like the replayed conversation from the beginning of the game during the credits.
