Some like it since it parodies the "trapped in a fantasy world" genre that's been getting more and more common. It even does the "video game RPG" thing.
I like the dysfunctional cast the most, They're fuckups but manage to come out on top in the end due to the few things they're good at.
Part of it might've been due to my first impression. I put on an episode since i heard it was fun, but expected a generic light-hearted fantasy show, and i got this instead.

It's a funny show that i look forward to watching each week, and that's enough for me, even if S2 has taken a bit of a dip at certain points.

One thing self inserts don't have is a personality that stands out. Kazuma does along with the rest of his party of them being assholes which is something you dont see enough of.
