Except Inaho was shooting at him in order to kill him right before the end and the only reason why he spared Slaine's life was his love for Asseylum and respect for her wish. Fujos are still deluded when Aoki said how Slaine's feelings towards Asseylum are romantic and Inaho considers her a part of himself.

To be fair, he had an incredibly shitty life and Asseylum was the only person who was nice to him in years. It's not surprising that a teenager would break from being hated by everyone around himself for years because he's from Earth and getting beaten on a daily basis. He was so desperate he saw her as his personal savior and was ready to give his life for her.

Slayne's flimsy transition to villainy never did convinced anyone. He was such a shitty & half-assed antagonist.

They could have just ended it season one and it would have been remembered as a pretty good anime.

That wasn't the point, he realised that he can't make peace with Earth and that he's powerless alone. He needed help from Saazbaum to not get killed by Vers as a traitor and Earth wouldn't accept him.

And once he served under Saazbaum and Vers he couldn't just ask for peace because they'd decide he's crazy and take away all his power.
