It's exactly what happened to Tomo-chan. You have that honeymoon phase where the idea of the manga is fresh and enticing, then 300 chapters in the authors ran it into the ground and is trying to throw some semblance of a story in there to keep people reading.

Tomo-chan is great. 4 volumes is not that long of a story. It only seems so because it's spread one page a day. MT needs to make their other characters catch up to Croissant in the engagement department. Hopefully NewGuy will force Toda and Nakano to get interesting.

When Nakano was in this situation he stepped up and helped her in the student council, went looking for her in the subway, gave her his shirt, and probably more at this rate.

When Toda is in distress she sits there awkwardly with her mouth shut, when all she really has to do is dream up a bit of small talk that would let Toda know she's not dating Shimizu.
