is blue exorcist season 2 worth it?

The second season starts in the middle of the first season after Rin first fights Amaimon or however you spell it. I thought it was a continuation but I was disappointed.

No. It's a reboot that pretends the last third of the 1st season never happened and has different storyline.

The first anime had extra episodes after the last manga arc it covered, but not enough to do the next arc without rushing it so it made up a new arc. This anime forgets that arc and picks up right after Rin got arrested. Episodes 2-5 are extremely slow plotwise so you should probably just speed through them. Things are finally starting to happen however, so it looks like it will get good. Overall I say it's worth watching if you liked season 1.
