Many of the series that recently won the Golden future cup have been getting axed as soon as they enter Jump simply because creating a plot for a single chapter compare to a long running series a drastically different. The mangaka probably realize this and decided to work on a series that actually have legs to begin with. The whole doctor shtick have been done so many time now and it never work out so he's probably smart to change it up.

I have a little more faith on this mangaka compare to others, specifically between him deciding to change material of his one shot to serialization and his comment of the current state of WSJ and how he doesn't like the direction it heading. He doesn't seem to a blind fanboy like many other mangaka that applied to the magazine.
