Picture is a combination of Ceruleans and the mythological beast Byakko. There weren't story scenes around this mission though, so it's all pretty vague.

After finishing it the player had a chance to get Byakko as a Friend or gather tokens to eventually recruit her. Same thing goes to the other 3 directional beasts, Genbu, Suzaku and Seiryu. They all have Cerulean and Friend forms.

Some animals that have enough visual variation have more than one friend representing the same species, like the Red Fox.

I don't think only one Friend per species is really a plot point, it's just a way to avoid a bunch of identical looking friends or needing to make minor variations of the same species, rather than covering different ones. It's not like we see a bunch of standard animals running around either.

Top bird one is Dyatrima.

The ones with shadowy faces and red eyes are all Kamaitachi. They are on that wiki.

Couldn't find any information on the one beside Seiryu or the long haired one on the bottom. Maybe they're new designs made after the game? There are also two chicken friends that only debuted after the game was offline, although I don't think they even are in that image in the first place. Royal Penguin, the leader of the PPP unit, also wasn't in the game.
