I think he likes to take the forms of those who have died in pursuit of their life-meaning/goal. But then again, Fushi did take the form of the bear, but that was because he thought it necessary.

If we're to find a pattern for the animals, it's that they were both mysteriously wounded and struggling with something.

Also, since Fushi can transform into Johann and the boy's forms without wounds anymore, I wonder if he can do that with March or if he'll always have that arrow sticking into his body.

He's fine with regenerating the exterior wounds the being he's copying had when they died, but he keeps forming these foreign objects into his body when he transforms into March and the bear.

I suppose, considering he's lived as Johann and the nameless boy the longest and his body kept regenerating their wounds, his mind adapted to their healed forms as the default appearance. It could all simply be an issue with his own cognitive ability.

I think this is a sound idea. So over time it will probably heal March's form. And something I thought about the bear. He was there when March was removing the spines. I wonder if he uses the wounded bear form when it is "angry" but might begin to use the non-pincushion version once he starts to become the bear for more than just attacking.
